Re: Mainstream occult ideas that you consider really pernicious?

I was watching a discussion Daniel Schmachtenberger had with Stoa a couple days ago and he pretty much nailed something that I've seen for a while - ie. that we live in a world defined by, really perpetually held hostage by, what he referred to as multipolar traps which are an analysis of arms races...

Re: Mainstream occult ideas that you consider really pernicious?

To add, it poses the question as well - ie. how did any of us end up as practitioners or even researchers in this area? I think a lot of us looked around at the game that was on offer, saw it completely corrosive to any degree of self-development or discovery, it's a world that essentially tries to ...

Re: Mainstream occult ideas that you consider really pernicious?

Yeah, I think Bret Weinstein summed it up at a Future Salon a few years ago quite well - that in a way we 'know' the purpose of human life, it's the same purpose as for spruce trees and squid, and it's not an interesting purpose - ie. that for the faculties we have we really should be able to do bet...

Re: Mainstream occult ideas that you consider really pernicious?

I'm getting at a mentality where the right thing to do with anyone who isn't like them is jam a pen in their eye for having been born. My biggest concern for that sort of flailing anti-self-control narcissism - I've been listening to a lot of people like Eric Weinstein, Daniel Schmachtenberger, Jami...

Re: Where did everyone go?

My own notes on Facebook - if it's not memes no one pays attention. I know a few pessimists who'll post page long rants by existentialist philosophers and in that little niche it works but outside that anything that takes attention is silent.

Re: Dark Night of the Soul

What happened was I realized I had a strong core of inner values, and I wasn't willing to sacrifice them for some dubious experience of enlightenment, that society would just frown upon anyway as being insane, and also that I was more interested in concrete results on the world rather than vague id...

Re: Mainstream occult ideas that you consider really pernicious?

First of all I had no clue this place was back up and running - some of the responses kicked off email notifications. That OP was actually written at what was the start of what was probably the worst year of my life in terms of work. By January 2019 I was on 60 mg of Nexium, had to fast three or fou...

Re: Synthetic Objectivity

This is where I tend to wonder if something like a panpsychist answer explains a fair amount - ie. that everything is observing but only some things get subsumed by larger sets of order. Seems like most of the heavyweights at manifestation would suggest that they're still pulling things through natu...

Metaphysically understanding the destruction of people

This got me thinking a bit more, especially as I've had to really wrap my mind around the idea in the last few years that not only does merit and effort not requisitely yield success but people can be absolutely destroyed for their best. I like the idea of calling that last idea a symbolic truth, ie...

Re: Autism

As someone with PDD-NOS, I really doubt you'd get any farther with that than taking them to a Christian faith healer. If you have someone with autism in your life about all you can do is help expedite their understanding of themselves, the world they live in, and why people behave the way they do. P...

Re: What makes Practicioners believe in limitations

Why is it not possible to achieve everything with magic? I have this question running in my head since I stepped foot in the occult practices. I have a theory. The world we live in is made up of dense vibrations, which makes it harder to manifest our desires. In the astral realm one can almost crea...

Re: What makes Practicioners believe in limitations

Studying across a broad swath of material, staying in touch with a lot of sharp people, and having experienced a lot myself albeit still not seeing 1:1 relationship of that to ritual work I might put it the following way. If as a kid you see adult basketball players on TV doing things that you think...
