Re: Death Refutations
But that's what narrative is, in essence: a deliberate limitation. As a Jungian, I'm always intensely aware of both narrative and the role of meta-narrative in constructing it. What makes narrative so challenging once one is aware it exists is the existential reality that creating it involves crafti...

Suggestions for occult fora
Seeing as this site seems to be largely abandoned, I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for other fora covering similar subject matter. In particular I'm looking for places without a lot of young people, and where the petty politics are kept to a dull roar. As I am a Jungian, I'd also like to avo...

Re: 3 Chicken feets under my car hood !
Diana the Valkyrie has run the biggest femdom community on the Internet for more than 20 years (predating the Web itself), and she has a formal policy to avoid drama: whatever you tell her, she will believe you. If you say you're a woman, or a lesbian, or a two-spirited pony-kin vampire, she will ta...

Re: Death Refutations
Spida, Phenomenology is an attempt to do an end-run around metaphysics by accepting axiomatically that our dasein, our experience of we-in-the-world, is necessarily real as there's nothing else conceivably for us to consider real. And what differentiates this human perception of self and paradoxical...

Re: Death Refutations
Cybernetic_Jazz, From a phenomenological perspective, what we experience is real, as, if "real" refers to anything, it must necessarily refer to our perception of being. And being can be defined by restriction to time and space, as these are the phenomena which differentiate our current st...

Re: Three Kinds Of Reincarnation
By Gnostic definition, a soul is the combination of body (soma) with spirit (pneuma). Remove either ingredient and you no longer have a soul. In other words, you have a body and spirit, you are a soul. And when the spirit leaves or the body perishes, the soul ceases.

Help identifying a sigil
As a Jungian mystic, I do a lot of dream work. Lately, they have been... apocalyptic. Very heavy, and full of dread. This morning when I woke up, I had a red, glowing sigil of some kind sitting right in the middle of my field of vision in my right eye. It took between 30 seconds and a minute for it ...

Re: Is there a market for actual mysticism?
Cybernetic_Jazz: Thanks for the insight. Part of the problem I'm having with focus is because I never wanted anything like this to begin with. I've always been a free spirit, never worried about money, and spent my life in service to other people and my community. I was always content living in dest...

Is there a market for actual mysticism?
For the last few years I've been earning extra money doing tarot readings on a little folding table on the street. My skills have increased over that time, and something odd is happening. I used to make $60-$80 in a 12 hour shift pretty reliably (I charge by voluntary donation), but for the last two...

Re: The Dark Mother, whale-like entities, and a threat
Well. I'm not sure what to make of that. Last night, the Anima came to me and told me that instead of waking up, she had left a number of jars around my dreams, and that rather than waking up gasping, in terror, I could instead take the panic and put them in the jars. The jars look like large glass ...

Many years ago, I had a friend who shared my interest in Eastern philosophy. We both lived with serious, lifelong clinical depression as well, so we also had that in common, though we were temperamentally different. Through a mutual acquaintaince, she gave me a book by Ernest Becker called "Den...

Re: The Dark Mother, whale-like entities, and a threat
Thank you both for the advice. As a Jungian the paradigms I use are a little different; rituals for me are about using suggestibility to build confidence and reinforce the Self, and finding ways of integrating my many archetypal selves into a working committee of Me capable of functioning without to...

The Dark Mother, whale-like entities, and a threat
I've been doing meditation and lucid dreaming for a long time. My Anima acts as my dream guide, usually in the form of Christina Applegate. Embarassing, I know, but apparently my subconscious considers her to be the ideal female form against which all others are measured. For the last few years, my ...

Odd behaviour while dreaming lucidly
I often use lucid dreaming, and have been able to have lucid dreams on a frequent basis since I was very young. In fact, it was lucid dreaming which eventually allowed me to work out my differences with my subconscious, with the Anima manifesting as Christina Applegate in my dreams and volunteering ...

Re: EVP (electronic voice phenomena)
The important thing to understand is that you're not listening to anything "out there," you're listening to stuff which is already inside your head with you. These noises you're interpreting have no inherent pattern. The brain is a pattern-recognition machine, and if it can't find a patter...

Re: This is what "real" (UFO's) look like...
Carl Jung noted that "UFOs" have been described as saucer-shaped since Ezekial's wheels in the Old Testament, and usually in the form of mandalas. The mandala is an archetypal symbol built into the structure of the human brain; every culture, every religion uses the mandala or some variati...

In Japanese, there are many ways of saying "thank you," but all of them express some level of hostility. Most of them translate into some variation of, "I now feel a sense of obligation to you." This is why gratefulness is so toxic, and why it's important to always give the oppor...

I'm assuming you're referring to the dakinis, who are complex figures which partake of both the Shadow and the Anima. It's true that the Shadow is more usually associated with male energy (the Goetia, for example), at least in modern times, but dakinis are bit more subtle in that they represent the ...

Re: What do you think causes "demonic possessions"?
What we regard as our identity is an admixture of archetypal symbols. People like Jung, Jaynes, and Campbell have noted the similarities of figures across religion, story, and folklore, and guessed that they were manifestations of powerful, primal figures which are imprinted in the brain at birth or...

Assistance identifying a figure
There's a figure which has been appearing in my dreams for months now, but won't identify herself. She sometimes appears as a woman without a face, and is sometimes accompanied by a scruffy, thin, sick-looking cat. She isn't threatening, but she acts amused, as if she's having a joke at my expense. ...

What can folks tell me about Lamia beyond what I can glean from Wikipedia? Is she Goetic? Would it be unusual for her to present as a faceless woman -- that is, appearing ordinary except without nose, eyes, ears, or hair, and with just a slit for a mouth? And would she in any way be associated with ...

I had an unusual experience recently which may be connected. I hadn't seen the connection initially, but for some reason what you've written is causing my subconscious to draw my mind to it. I was waiting for a bus and some guy I didn't know stopped and asked me if I was "that tarot guy." ...
