Re: Unicorns, princesses and dolphins?

Although not about unicorns, I cannot think of a more magical children's book than Elizabeth Goudge's 'The Little White Horse'. This book was a gateway to magic for me as a child. It's not a picture book, it's quaintly English, and it's a bit old for a four year old, but I read it aloud to my childr...

Not a direct answer to your question, but have you ever read 'The Velveteen Rabbit', a classic English children's book and one of the most magical ever written? The story is about love bringing inanimate toys to life. Here's a short extract.

Re: Pharmacy/Pharmakeia=TheUseOfOrAdministrationOfDrugs

Woooh, what if... there is an unaccounted for "synesthete".. out there? That one being; a synesthete that somehow can see color of the body's electric and magnetic fields of vibration? Maybe that explaines the people who can actually see "auras"! Synesthete in my dfinition - mea...

Re: Pharmacy/Pharmakeia=TheUseOfOrAdministrationOfDrugs

People with chromesthesia hear sounds and these automatically and unintentionally make them experience colours. To someone who doesn’t experience this, it sounds weird or distracting, that you’d suddenly start seeing colours while listening to music, but to synesthetes who have grown up with this, ...

Re: Connecting with the genius loci

Thanks for your replies all. There's not going to be a lot of lying down in the middle of the plot in freezing November gales, but come spring, absolutely [grin] My connection to nature is very damp. I used to live near a small garden with tall trees. I always spoke to them in wishes. The wind would...

Connecting with the genius loci

This week one of my life-long dreams came true when I was offered the tenancy of an ancient apple orchard and enormous vegetable patch - about a third of an acre in all. I live in a little medieval town with minute courtyard gardens and plots like these are rare as hens' teeth. The plot is completel...

Re: Is the occasional dram of whiskey detrimental to practic

What Caerdon said. If your new drinking habit makes you uptight and concerned (understandable given your father's problem) isn't that likely to prove a greater inhibitor to your magick than mild intoxication?

But more importantly, have you managed to get the walking cane with concealed sword?

Re: Is suicide honorable?

I think the only person who has a right to talk about whether a suicide was right or not for them is the person involved. At the end of the day, each persons life is their own. I think in some terminal illness cases it makes sense. If you know you have a degenerative brain disease or cancerous tumo...

Re: Is suicide honorable?

Now, why does a person become a soldier? What do soldiers actually get to do? They get to kill people. They get people trying to kill them. See the psychology at work here? 'I'll be a soldier because then I'll get the chance to kill people. I'll be a soldier because then I'll get the chance to have...

but I suspect the number of suicides that don't involve some severe psychological imbalance is very small (at least in our modern, Western culture). Haelos I wrote my post before I read yours. I agree with your argument about teens and that no two cases of mental illness are the same, but I suspect the number of suicides that don't involve some severe psychological imbalance is very small (at least in our modern, Western culture). And surely any...

Re: Is suicide honorable?

With regards to teenagers committing suicide, I think it more represents a total failure on behalf of the parents to make the child feel loved and valued by making the effort to build a close relationship with them. It can do, but this statement is a gross generalisation. As Caerdon says, plenty of...

Re: My first encounter with a witch

This story is delicious and it reminded me of the original Scottish meaning of the word 'glamour' (or 'gramarye')- to cast a spell of enchantment on someone, making them see something the spell-caster wished them to see. Hence the old expressions 'to cast a glamour' and 'to wear a cloak of glamour.'

It was good to see your post when I checked in today, Hadit. I hope you're feeling in a better place. I can't imagine how bewildering it must be to...

Hi RockDemon I've checked and unfortunately can't copy the article, but I have found from another source an abstract of what I think must have been a follow-up experiment in Israel involving 3393 patients with bloodstream infections, which replicated the result. http://deanradin.com/evidence/Leibovi...

Re: Doing rituals for something that already happened?

On a not dissimilar note, about 15 years ago the British Medical Journal ran an article about retroactive prayer. A couple of researchers had set out to debunk 'ridiculous' claims that if someone prayed for you it improved your chances of recovery from life-threatening illness. When the data contrad...

Hello Hadit I'm really sorry you've reached such a low point. I know how that feels. First and most importantly, have you told your doctor/therapist and loved ones that you've been feeling suicidal? Have you tried taking supplements of Vit B6 (pyridoxine) or its activated form P5P (pyridoxal-5-phosphate)? It's believed that Vitamin B6 converts the amino acid tryptophan into serotonin, which wakes up the brain during REM sleep, and helps the mind both enhance and take stock of what it's seeing. ...

Its very neo/pagan wiccanesque to require permission. Its part of the ethos of the love and light and sparkly rainbow crowd. You should ask them their opinion on this. There are a lot of different viewpoints out there. Hi Rose Been there, done that, realise I've wasted painful years in the process ...

I have no ethical issues whatever taking action on behalf of the children without their knowledge and consent (and do so as an...
