Re: Learning Greek/Coptic for Gnostic study
I didn't know that was a thing. Indeed, there are actually several Coptic churches in my area. I didn't know the language was spoken (or at least known) by so many people that there are churches named after it.manonthepath wrote:There are many Coptic churches all over the place. Re: are angels and spirits real?
They're real in a way. Really, everything we perceive is a product of the mind, but spirits are more real than what we can perceive with our senses, and everything has a spirit and is a spirit. but they're actually all one spirit that's been broken up and divided. It seems to be stronger around tree...

Re: Learning Greek/Coptic for Gnostic study
My experience is that you will need formal language instruction if you want to get any decent results. The christians have one use that they run seminaries that offer classes in classical Hebrew, Greek, and Latin, as well as biblical Greek. These courses can be relatively cheap if you audit them. a...

Re: Your special places
I unfortunately live in a farmland that's converting into a developed area pretty rapidly, so all of my special places always end up being destroyed by land development, which makes me sad. There are no forests left around here, just small, heavily littered patches of trees between the roads. I like...

Re: What music are you listening to now?
I'm listening to the album that brought me here in the first place. Very occult, this one. The whole band in general, really. If you haven't heard it yet, I strongly advise you to give it a listen. It is quite a masterpiece. I almost have all the lyrics memorized at this point, which is pretty incre...

Re: Wanted : Podcast Interviwees!
I'm mostly interested in theism and Gnosticism at the moment, but I could talk about a lot of things, like Taoism and such. Just nothing I don't know too much about, which is a list that obviously can't be written out.

Re: Image of God
I tend to think of it more as a duality than a trinity, with everything having a counterpart as both the Monad and the Dyad. This isn't exclusive to humans, or even to "living" things as a whole, but rather everything that we perceive is part of us and, by extension, part of God. We are cr...

Re: Who is Sophia?
So what is Sophia's relation to the Monad? Is she viewed as the personification of the pathway to gnosis, an aeon of the Monad, or a separate concept (like the demiurge of the ideal world rather than the corrupted one in which we are currently in existence)? I read a text from the Nag Hammadi librar...

I would probably do this, but my microphone broke so I have nothing to record with.

Re: Chaos Definition
I tend to think of Chaos as a separate term from the void, but rather the phase when the void (or God) becomes the only thing in existence, free from the restriction and fragmentation of the physical form.

Re: Chaos Definition
I think Chaos is the stage after the amputation of the material universe, and also what existed before its emergence. Chaos isn't exactly an essence, but a stage of existence in which cognition does not exist.

Re: i guess i should probably do this
Sorry for the misspelling of magick. It obviously isn't a field that I do research on, as it just doesn't seem like something I can accept, based on what I have read on it (spells, sorcery, and such). Thank you for the compliment on my picture, Nahemah. It's a self portrait made from significant sym...

i guess i should probably do this
I just found this forum yesterday while trying to make sense of some Current 93 lyrics, and accidentally ventured into the realm of Gnosticism. The rest of the day and all of today was instantly consumed by reading about it, so I decided to join here, since I don't know anyone in real life with whom...

Re: What does union with God mean?
Well met and Welcome. You dug pretty deep into the archives for a 1st post. :) In questions like this, it is always, of course, IMHO. To the OP topic... I think all is God. We are shards of God. Thru multiple lives and lessons we evolve spiritually. At some point we choose to discard our lower vehi...

Learning Greek/Coptic for Gnostic study
I just discovered Gnosticism, and it's extremely interesting to me, and seems to have a lot in common with what I've believed myself for a while now. I'd like to study the original Gnostic texts, and I ordered some translations of the gospels and apocrypha from the library today, though I'm contempl...

Re: What does union with God mean?
The way I see it, union with god means the collapse of the material veil of consciousness (i.e. the Demiurge) and ultimate ascension to the true absence of all existence and cognition (I believe this reality is what is known as the Monad, though I'm more accustomed to naming it the Tao or Nammu, sin...
