I would love to read your experiences/opinions of the state of trance. What is it like in your point of view and what have you seen there? It is extremely stupid to encourage anyone to use any kind of psychoactive substances. So lets keep them out of this thread and concentrate on the visions.
A Vision of Underworld
A few years ago it was extremely cold midwinter night. I was in a "shamanistic" ceremony with my teacher/friend and his relative. We used modern folk
music by Hedningarna for our visual journey. I was wearing a Norse wool shirt, a silver mjölner (I got it from my mother and father when I was
15 years old), it was hanging in a silver chain (I got it from my godfather and godmother at the same age) and I also had a few artefacts that my newer
friend had given to me. I had purified and dressed myself for the event.
Trance started suddenly, northern lights filled the room, the air was shining in purple, red, green, silver and blue "frost crystals" and I entered into
the spiritworld and saw horses running. There was a green meadow and a river, I was like the youngest of horses trying to follow the elder and stronger ones.
My Mother/Guide took care of me, I felt mysef completely safe.
I saw a maiden in purple dress, another friend of mine, mourning for her dead loved one on a river bank. I don't remember how I entered the Underworld, but there I was sitting on a massive dark stone chair with two Gods. I remember that black roots were descending from the roof of the Hall, the river was black yet streaming in all colors I ever could imagine.
Our beards and hair were shining in silver. The Gods had white/silver clothes with shining blue and red holy ornaments on sleeves. I was faraway but still there, outside time and space but alive with my every cell. We where talking very philosophical stuff.
The Gods show me how stupid and blind people were (destroing Nature, lying, cheating, backstabbing). They show me how stupid money is,
and they show me that it is easy to get money when needed without being a slave. They told me how useless fear is and how I can find everything inside me.
They also told that it is important to share these visions to help people see some joy on this black earth. The meaning of being and evolution is now.
Nowadays I realize that I was communicating with my Highest Self. Some teachings of this journey have just recently opened in my life, so the effect
was strong.
These stone tables and chairs, pillars and floors seem to be a common theme in Underworld experiences?

Welcome to www.kungfuuniversity.com! Here you will find what is Kungfu, how can learn Kungfu well, how to be a man just like Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Jet Li!It's said that Gongfu. Hard work over time to accomplish skill. A painter can have gongfu. Or the butcher who cuts meat every day with such skill...his knife never touches bone. Learn the form, but seek the formless. Hear the soundless. Learn it all, then forget it all. Learn The Way, then find your own way. The musician can have gongfu. Or the poet who paints pictures with words and makes emperors weep. This, too, is gongfu. But do not name it, my friend, for it is like water. Nothing is softer than water...yet it can overcome rock. It does not fight. It flows around the opponent. Formless, nameles...the true master dwells within. Only you can free him. Come on, body! Many wellknown Kungfu masters will teach you form-form. Shaolin, Wudang, Taichi and many other linds of Kungfu. Anyone you like, just have a taste! Once chose, you will be a different person as before. Whoever you are, a painter, a butcher, a musician... To be YOU! Only $360 you can be YOU! Welcome to www.kungfuuniversity.com!

well, depends on what you consider the underworld to be?
if you're referring to afterlives, then not as common as one would think. if your referring to subterranean places, then probably.

Hmmm, I'm referring to Underworld in a shamanistic context: Upper World, Middle World and Underworld. Johannes Setälä's journey in his book Shamaanin Maailma (Shaman's World) is one of the wildest I have ever heard. This voyage is described in the first chapter of this book. He tells about these stones as well.
For me these Worlds are three states of the existence/psyche, I'm an amateur and beginner and it is difficult to say how to get there as I don't have a very objective perspective on this issue. I hope I'll learn one day. I've been once in the Upperworld and it was a very rational, logical (Loki?) experience of conciousness, although my highest essence gave me information in a very odd format and this information seems to be from outside of my body yet it is information I gave to my self.
Underworld seems to be more obscure (Odin?) and mere like a collective ancestral Hall, genetic memory or legacy of blood, like a journey into the genes that oscillate and sing their story. After that trip I have learned my family tree and found out that many of my ancestral lines are from Sweden/Denmark and propably from Norway.
Interesting thing is that one line carries name Streng and it maybe came to Finland about 500 years ago from Götaland Sweden and my Thor's Hammer amulet is a replica of Mjölner found on that area.
Graveyards are still today full of carved stones which remind me of viking rune stones. I believe there first was the thought and then the action, there was a vision before man started to carve these stones. Under the pyramids and temples of the civilizations all over the world there are tunnels under them.
I have learned after my trip that nothern lights (in finnish revontulet, fires of fox) are said to be Odin's blood when he was hanging and bleeding in Yggdrasil, also Väinämöinen wounded himself when he was carving the boat to go to the Otherside. The blood again.

ah.
I dont really follow that whole three level worlds theory. I mean, Ive been to most of the nine worlds, and well, they seem to be all even to me to even our world.
theres high spots and there are low spots though. but thats just caves and mountains.
as to the point of beleiving they are part of the psyche, well...I just cant go with that, the people i meet there are....real.
i highly doubt my mind could create so many unique people. and besides that, if it is a psyche thing, then i cant believe that all of you are real.

Finnish word for world, 'maailma', consists of two words 'maa' (earth) and 'ilma' (air). I believe that these 3 worlds each have three worlds within: upper, middle and under. But of course I cannot claim this to be the truth of anykind.
I don't see a conflict between "psychic" and "real", different sides of the same coin - for me. I don't believe in death either. I believe in change from mass to energy and vice versa, they are the same (same beginning but different polarities of the wave). Nowness is the same always, I quess.
I aggree that those people are real, but from my perspective they are not as real as in your perspective, things are relative I suppose.
I really would like to know more about the people you have met there? When sharing experiences of the Otherside we can expand the objective consciousness and I think these stories are fascinating.
And I believe that there's Wisdom in Visions.

Okay, I greet you as a brother, you wolf who are chasing the horse and the sun
I think you might find the link below interesting, it is so far the best online resource I have ever found. Beside northern fairy tales there's for example Zoëga's A Concise Dictionary of Old Icelandic.
I have found so many explanations for my visions in there.

Hmmm, I'm afraid I don't understand, could you explain?
Shamanism is a very universal way to see, think, live and do. I Believe that all cultures and religions (especially christianity) have the same root, shamanism. ('Same' in finnish = sama)
Ancient burial traditions and rock paintings all over the world support this theory.
edit: Haha, now I see... I didn't understand phrase "sight for sore eyes", but you ment that it would be a good sight? Yes!
In Finland there are a few shaman drum schools/circles and a handful of traditional shamanic persons who carry the tradition. A friend of mine told me about one circle and speculated that I might be interested in... Hel Yeah!

yeah, it's been an interesting path.
Raven Kaldera seems to be pretty good source too. I hope to speak with him some day.
So yeah, I practice a bit of the northern tradition. But lets get it clear, all religions have had shamans, as shamanism is but a method, not a religion.

Very interesting link.
Yes, it's a method, in Amazon shaman healer can pray for Holy Mary or the gods of his ancestors. It is not that strict and shaman can and s/he musts decide what methods are good for him/her.
Edit: [For example Setälä says that it is possible to travel ('langeta Loveen', fall into trance) with drum as well as with Kantele. I enjoy the vibration of electric bass tuned down to C, unplugged, I just let my body be the amplifier.]
I have had a few visions in a "South American style". For example I once saw some kind of Maya language streaming on the wall when I was on a spring where the idea of art keeps popping up to human pscyhe. It was a beautiful moment.
By the way, in another thread you say that you were drinking tea with Odin and Morgana, it is a funny "coincidence" (I don't really believe in coincideces) as we were drinking tea in the ceremony when I met the Gods. :eh:

heh, yeah, there are no coincidences in the universe. everything happens for a reason.
yeah, I am fortunate to have been inducted into the wolf clan, even though the blood lines seem to be just short of feud. my wonderful pack takes care of me, as we mostly keep to ourselves in the little part of the woods that we have spent time to build a wonderful hall in.
It's called in English, sanctuary, but we call it by the old iron woods name there (kinda hard to translate that word into written English...) its just inside the woods on the lake side of the woods.
if you're ever in the area, go ahead and drop buy, Luna should be there to pour you a fine cup of ale :3

I often enter trance states and many times unintentionally it is a problem I was born with and it is difficult for me because I do not always wish to be in a trance but I have learned more to control it and how to deal with it
I meet the allies there but it is a place of warfare
i think it is not particularly wise to desire to enter a trance state unless one is prepared and initiated as it is a place of warfare
you know I have experienced ecstacy and divine power much greater than any drug could possibly induce but that is a flaw in my brain I suppose
and also have experience the depths of hell too

Hello , I know this is an old post but i thought you might like to know that we are bringing Raven Kaldera to the UK for a series of talks and a weekend workshop if you are interested you can see more here http://thebaphhouse.com/2010/12/mapping-the-underworld/ . Thanks x
