Christian Practice of Mortification
Does anyone know of some good information about mortification practices throughout history? I've been trying to find information on actual practices, maybe even a "schedule" of actions and can't seem to find any.

This is the biggest reason why I abhor Catholicism: the absurd glorification of self abuse and victimhood, but for the sake of providing accurate information, here are some articles anyway.

Normally I get myself in a lot more trouble when I make a bunch of posts in hysterics, but this is pretty useful. Is it really just a Catholic thing - I thought other Christian sects practiced it too?

It's mainly an older christian practice, newer sects usually don't do it, but the older sects do.Thaumaturgic Theorist wrote:Normally I get myself in a lot more trouble when I make a bunch of posts in hysterics, but this is pretty useful. Although there are always exceptions.

This is the biggest reason why I adore Catholicism. They are just so fucking pagan. Blood sacrifice and self mutilation is probably some of the oldest religious rites and can be found in almost all primitive civilizations.Nahemah wrote:This is the biggest reason why I abhor Catholicism: the absurd glorification of self abuse and victimhood,

Similar rituals are performed on Good Friday in South East Asia and in Thailand, by Christians this article gives details and some other interesting info too:
