Developing Presence
Developing Presence
So recently working with my negative traits I've done a discovery. It seems that my biggest vice is the absence of the "I" from the moment. Whenever the "I" is present or I am present in the moment many of my other negative traits do not even take place. I changed my autosuggestion phrase (from IIH) to "I am present in the moment" and thus far it yields great results.
So what do you guys do to be more and more present in the moment? Moreover, what would you advice to make it a habit so that the "I" is always present when and where is needed.

Re: Developing Presence
Get rid of distractions. TV, Computer, news, annoying relatives.
Enhance your passions, get something that wants you spend time in the moment, instead of looking forward.
And then the obvious one, resolve the past.

Oh, RockDemon..
I love every time you post.
Try using the Sanskrit mantra "So Hum."
"So" is the sound of breath entering through your nostrils.
"Hum" is the sound of it exiting through your nostrils and mouth.
Translated, the mantra means "I am that I am."
It's a mantra to "Be."
The shorter and simpler, the better. Follow your breath as you repeat the mantra in your head.
This is one of the very few Sanskrit mantras that aren't intended to be spoken aloud.

Definately this one. When you connect your awareness and 'presence' to your breath, then every time you breath you'll be more able to find the state of mind you want to find.Haelos wrote: Try using the Sanskrit mantra "So Hum."

Free yourself from the seduction of words.
Re: Developing Presence
I have been practicing Mindfulness meditation for the last 3 years. I can vouch for it's efficiency. I used to be a lot more distracted but this meditation teaches you how to nurture the ''I'' to live in the present moment. It is therefore highly beneficial for people prone to depressive or anxious thinking. In fact, there are scientific evidence that it can really alter how to brain works with time and practice.RockDemon wrote:So what do you guys do to be more and more present in the moment? First, thank you all for the responses.
Can I ask how do you exactly practice mindfulness?
Yes, these all does sound simple. Though hard in practice. However I almost never watch TV. So it is accomplishable.Desecrated wrote:Get rid of distractions. TV, Computer, news, annoying relatives.

Yes, I was feeling that the "I am that I am." has to do with something with this.Haelos wrote:Oh, RockDemon..

It is always great to have books on the subject. And the video is great!EEHC wrote:I have been practicing Mindfulness meditation for the last 3 years. I can vouch for it's efficiency. Shin, from what I get from reading it is that all the exercises prior to step 8 develop the presence among other things as well, doesn't they?Shinichi wrote:Read Step 8, RD. The Moment of Now section.

Re: Developing Presence
Yup. From the very start, you have Thought Control and that "be mindful throughout the day" thing. Then you have autosuggestion, when you can use to refine this, and the imagination exercises that sharpen concentration quite intently. Then the transference of consciousness training, which expands and refines awareness in a way I cannot even articulate. One step at a time, up and up, constantly training and refining yourself, until you finally get to that Gnosis or Samadhi state in Step 8.RockDemon wrote: Shin, from what I get from reading it is that all the exercises prior to step 8 develop the presence among other things as well, doesn't they?
So basically, just don't worry so much about it. Do the work. Over the next few years, your awareness and focus will grow and sharpen quite a lot, and it will all culminate in what you are concerned with in this thread. Step 8 is Step 8, so just focus on the work in front of you. Paying attention throughout the day a la Thought Control in step one, sharpening the mind a la imagination in Step 2, balancing the soul mirrors. It's a long term refinement process, and Bardon will walk you through each step of it. [thumbup]
