Occult Artwork Help

Hi everyone.
I'm new to this forum and hope to find help by someone who might be better informed than I am, concerning occult/mystic symbols, sigils, runes, etc.
I'm working on a personal piece of artwork called "Gates ov Babylon". Basically it's just a Typography-Artwork (The lettering will be in a circle) which needs more subtle details.
Because I don't want to throw any symbols, etc at random into it and want to give it a more deeper meaning, I am looking for 'easy-to-access' information on summerian/accadian(/babylonian) symbolic & mystic. I'm even thinking about influences from the Kabbala for my design.
Sadly, most information I could find on the net was either not very accurate/badly researched or way too academic for my means. I'm not willing to read through several books, just for a single piece of artwork.
Personally, I have a basic knowledge on the norse "Futhark", but beside it having a different geographical background, it would not fit in my idea.

If you want to get an idea of what I am aiming for, you might want to look up some cover and/or logo/artwork/designs from occult/orthodox/black metal bands (don't get me wrong! - my artwork is not supposed to become a bandlogo, just a piece of complex artwork.)
Nevertheless, it should/may look somewhat occult and mystic and deliver a certain 'feel' of ancient mysticism from that region.

I hope that my approach is understandable and I apologize if something isn't quite clear (I'm german).
