Haughtily in their name go about tainting the land
Your influence and hypocrisy mean nothing at all
Just another coward hiding behind a shield wall

Your resplendent generals have pretty names
Bleating sheep, clucking hens and cawing crows
Another perfumed Hellene fop fanning the flames
Now smaller and less bright as the fear of us grows
I see their faint flickering glow from across the river
Drawing steel while laying down my bow and quiver

Your companion cavalrymen are none too brave
As we of the steppes are more fierce than Persians
Too fearful to cross the Jaxartes, you girlish knave?
Do try to continue your unwelcome armed intrusions
Victorious thus far, having only your luck to thank
Come alone and meet me upon the opposite bank
