This is essential reading for anyone who wishes to learn about the backdrop to how Medieval spiritual thought was constructed and how it endured into modern times.Robert Bartlett is Professor of Medieval History at St.Andrews University,Scotland.It is a shame the illustrations are b/w but who really cares as the text is one of the most imagination stirring you will find.Well received by the prestigious Times Literary Supplement which says it all.
