We seem to condemn Iran’s denigration and discrimination of Gays and women while at the same time forgetting that we do not give full equality to our own women and Gays and are indeed fighting these notions.

Are we just pots calling the kettle black in these issues while hypocritically doing the same as Iran and other countries who we are trying to preach to in terms of human rights?

I think that we are. We do not walk our talk so can we actually expect others to take our advise and lead when we ourselves do not live up to our own expectations?

Can we expect them to change their views which in a sense are more honest than our own?

I think it is wrong to assume all Christians and all Muslims hate gays, remember there are even many gay Christians and Muslims. But yes, I think we in the West pat our backs and pride ourself on our tolerance, and then turn around and discriminate like hell, and not just women and gays, people are discriminated for their religion, for their looks, for their weight, for their race and a million other reasons. If it is one thing we human beings is good at it is hating everyone we deam we have reason to hate. However that being said, I would rather be denied the full rights to marry and be tossed some hate comments at for being bisexual, than I would want to live in a nation which would stone me for it. So to answer your question, are the West as bad as Iran, hell no, but we are definitly not tolerant enough either, with some nations being more tolerant than others but all could do better.
