Occult movies?

Post by Micr0cosM »

Hi all,

I am in a mood to watch some movies.

Can anyone suggest any good occult style movies that have come out in maybe the last ten years?

Not necessarily horror type movies, but ones where the author has clearly done research in the field. Like Ninth gate but more recent.

Thanks.

If you have not seen this its excellent and fairly historically correct. How it got a 15 rating I dont know as some of the scenes are really brutal.

I second this awesome movie.

I'd also recommend Doctor Strange. It's a superhero movie with magic and occult stuff thrown in.
Awake from sleep! Remember you're the son of a Great King, see to whom you're enslaved!

I have to second that. I usually think conspiracy nuts over-interpret occult and freemasonry symbols into mainstream movies. But I was actually surprised by 'Doctor Strange'. There are a couple of passages from that movie that is straight out of the 'New Thoughts' movement. And the explanation 'The Ancient One' gives about magic is eerily close to some of their writings.
There is even references to Aldous Huxley and things like The Key of Solomon.

I liked that The Shadow Out Of Time short, the visuals were distracting but it was well read and enjoyable, thanks.

Very interesting movie which explores some alchemical themes, on top of the obvious demonic horror stuff.

Sounds interesting but has poor ratings. I wonder if the occult premise behind the movie was not well understood?

I know the title is a hermetic axiom, but I didn't notice any occult-ness to the movie itself. Maybe I'd need to watch it again, but upon first watch, I'd say it's a mediocre horror movie.

It's a little bit hard to understand unless you've studied alchemy. But personally I thought it was an okay movie. Perfect popcorn horror for a lazy saturday.

Awesome man! Thanks a lot.

Ratings are pretty good on Rotten Tomatoes, I'm going to rent it right away.

You have provided some very good material to this forum and I commend you for that.
