I believe You are confusing two things.
Cancer is a result of mutation within already specialised cells in our tissues. And not all cancers reproduce uncontrollably.
Stem cells are rare in human body - they are cells that have not yet differentiated into specialised tissue cells.
And recently scientists created stem cells that do not age.
My guess is that there's a tartarian chasm between stem cells that do not age and physically regenerating a complete human organism. I'm not a bioengineer but my intuition tells me that is akin to trying to go to Alpha Centari on rocket fuel. Besides, I did not take from the above article that the individual cells were immortal.
