It originally wasn't showing up. He fixed it. :)

Why'd you quote it a third time? [tongue]

Just didn't bother to remove it from my post.

It's a ghost echo.

Just because it's pink and comes in a pretty carrying case doesn't mean it isn't quite the serious occult tool! Such is the power of pink Ouija asserting itself through synchronicity right before our very eyes!

This isn't occult, this is a children's game.

There's a Barbie edition as well.

Hadit, we can just disagree on that.

I guess we can disagree about anything, like whether the earth is flat or not.

I'd call it both albeit it probably shouldn't be a kids game.

That is a good point. Especially as someone involved with the occult, and the unavoidable association between such a game and occultism, I would never want it in the hands of children. Ouija boards are a good example, however, of how a mere marketing idea can legitimately get into the subconscious. Even people who know it's history can be freaked by them, myself included!

So, tell me, what is 'occult'?

Do you really think that the paint job on the tool matters more than the tool? That's like saying 'it's not a real harley because they don't come in pink'. LOL (unless you get it customized - then it's any color you like - but it's no less of what it is because of it's fashion statement.)

"I don't always use a ouija board, but when I do it's the pink barbie edition." ;)

Everyone has to start somewhere I guess..

I bet that would be adorable.

If I allowed Ouija boards in my home I would get a My Little Pony one for my granddaughter. They're much cuter than Barbie, although I do know a which who loves that barbie pink so much she actually found a Barbie one to use. LOL To each their own.

The thing about spirit boards - it doesn't really matter if it's made by a spirit worker, in a factory or drawn out by a kindergartner with a crayon. If the required components are there - it'll work. It's very folk magicy that way.

I simply don't think that Go Fish and it's relatives deserve to be termed as "occultism". I mean, cmon. Make sure to get your decks of cards out of the house.

I'm going to ask you to define your personal usage of the word 'occult' before we go any further in this conversation.

'Quick - get the cards out of the house.' Seriously? You don't consider divination or spirit communication as falling under the main heading of all things Occult?

For someone studying all things hidden - you sure seem to have quite a narrow idea of what you could find. Just think of all the things you'll miss out on even finding out exist because you've already closed your mind to things you know nothing about.

And for the record - Witchcraft, The Craft and Folk Magic all fall under your preciously held narrow definition of what you currently believe the Occult to be. It's a whole lot bigger than just Ceremonial Magick and Satanism.

You do divination and spirit communication through go fish, uno, candy land, shoots and ladders, etc? Maybe you're looking for the hidden too much! There IS a mundane reality.

[lol] [lol] [lol] [lol] [lol] [lol]

He made a funny. Yeah, no shit. I live in the mundane reality.

No, I have never practiced cartomancy while playing go fish, but one time my Grandmother and I had just finished a game of go fish (seriously - I shit you not) and she picked up the deck of cards, reshuffled and showed me how to lay out the same deck for a simple divination layout. Then she told me it was one of our little secrets and my mom didn't need to know. LOL

Please try to understand that I'm not a magician. I am a Trad Witch from a Lineaged Matriarchal Line. I was taught how to use the simple things of every day life my entire life until she died and now she still teaches me as one of my Beloved Dead. I taught my daughter and we'll be teaching my soon to be granddaughter.

This is an occult forum. People are here to talk about occult things - not daily mundane life. I've been around the block a few times and I've studied quite a bit. I've talked to people and made real relationships with other practioners that have dedicated their lives to their Paths. Shin's a Librarian. I'm a Lore Keeper. We don't write our shit down like that - it's an Oral Tradition. And I have shared quite a bit of it here. I enjoy discussing these topics. This is where we gather to discuss these things. There are plenty of people out there to discuss the more mundane issues, although, I thought I was actually doing a pretty good job of getting the thought across that what you do needs to be followed through in the mundane.

I live my Path, like others here. You weren't here last summer when I discussed how difficult it was to do my first grandchilds Funeral Rites. You weren't here last February when my Father died and I did his Passing Over Rite which was acknowledged by the Baptist Minister I grabbed in the hallway and the Catholic Priest that he brought in, as was my Father's religious belief. I'd much rather do weddings than funerals but I'm not at that point yet. I believe it to be obvious (but in case I'm wrong) I'm not discussing Witchcraft in this paragraph. These are matters of clergy. If you wish to discuss matters of mundane life - say so. I just opened another business and care for 4 generations of my lineage - as my Grandmother did. She was a hell of a woman.

But know, your reply is a defining moment in your life. Either you do believe this shit is real or you don't. You don't get to pick and choose the parts that are or aren't.

My view is the same in a way. What its painted like doesnt necessarily matter.. it will be quite a sub par tool becaues its cheap, shoddily made, isnt sigilised or otherwise activated. But you could still make it work relatively good enough, since at its heart, its still an Ouija board.

Go Fish afaik is played with a 52 card deck.. you can do cartomancy with a 52 card deck. The cards themselves are mundane.. as you say nothing more than a game.. but they can be used in divination which is an occult 'skill' so to speak. Divination can be done in many different ways (think desecrated had a thread where he pretty much listed around 50 variations) and some of them are certainly more 'ludicrous' in the mundane tools used to scry than cartomancy.

Kind of confused where the above disagreement stemmed from. Too many brushes up ass at the moment around here.

You could actually do that if you wanted to. Some of the absolutely earliest form of divination was done with dices.
As long as you are using anything that is symbolically representative and it triggers your subconscious you could use it for magic.

If you can't take a shoddily made cheap tool and charge it to something powerful, it's your magic that is sub-par. :)

There are some seriously talented folks using US Games tarot cards and those are really cheap 'printed in china' plastic crap.

The fact that you think those two are different kinda makes me sad.
