For those who have explored the Aeythers, and have read Crowley's account thereof, how would you compare your experiences of them to those of Crowley?

I have purposely avoided reading other accounts of Aethyr work until I had fully explored them myself. In that same concept I will refrain from discussing my Aethyr work with those who have not experienced them as well.
I feel it was a very valuable tool helping me avoid any preconceptions other than the preperatory study i.e. gematria, signposts, governors etc.... I would however be happy to compare notes on any Aethyr privately with others who have experienced it themselves.
I am currently seated in DES but have not explored it enough to be comfortable with discussing it yet, but anything below that would be fine.

I have some little experience of the Aethyrs, the higher numbers anyway, and agree with Frater Manjet that it is better not to read others' experiences before having your own. Whatever you experience is, I believe, interpreted in your own symbolic language and no two people will have the same experience except in the most general sense. There are so many ways of representing anything that each of us will have our own set of symbols to communicate the idea, and these will not necessarily mean anything at all to another person.

The only time I ever scried an Aethyr, I screwed the ritual all up. I ended up talking, in turns, to an entity who identified himself as Abraxis and looked nothing like the Gnostic deity of the same name (whom at that time I knew nothing about.) He was a pale man with a black beard, wearing plain black clothes (button up coat like an Amish man and and a tall, wide brimmed black hat) and he told me that, among other things, that he was evil. I believe he also told me that he was god. Whatever. I also ended up talking with Uriel, who made a lot more sense to talk to. And he showed me, for whatever an inverted pentagram.
The whole experience was pretty nonsensical to me. This was years ago, and when the time is right, I do plan on trying again.

I do feel however it is important to this discussion to stress the implementation of "signposts". Prior to any work such as this or say skrying a Watchtower square and other similar operations, one should have an arsenal of associations and correspondances at hand to test and validate any experience; from gematria to sigils etc...
...Arming yourself with the such knowledge before hand has two primary benefits.
...First it focuses the intent of your working; providing an iconic structure in which to work. This will, in a way, help "tune you in" to the desired frequecy if you will. Creating a sympathetic connection. This is at the heart of my reluctance to read other accounts beforehand.
...Secondly these preparations will avail themselves during the actual operation itself. While skrying, or travelling you will most likely encounter any number of images, ideas and concepts. Being so armed with these "signposts" will provide a means of validation. This holds true for post analysis of the event as well.
[QUOTE=hitman777]The whole experience was pretty nonsensical to me. Some proved valid others not. I have had more invalid operations than valid ones. Many of the valid ones made little sense to me at the time but they stood up to my tests and proved themselves valuable.
...Without proper preperation in this iconic language, I feel that delusion and illusion run rampant.
...my two coppers.
