Hga prerequisites

Hi all. So I've been working through Donald Michael kraig's modern magick. He says do a month per chapter, so I did meditation and tarot for a month, lbrp for a month, and in a couple days I'll start the middle pillar. Since there's a month of no new practices that gives me lots of opportunity to read other books. Over the past week or so I've been drawn to the whole holy guardian angel thing. Recently I've started reading 21st century mage (it's a more modern approach to the abramelin operation). So I was wondering, being a beginner, where I should be before I start trying to get k & c? Like would I be fine now, or should I go through the elemental grades first? Or should I be at this for many years before even thinking about it? Etc. thanks

You might find this useful.

In a sense, the work that you are already doing is part of attaining what's come to be called "K&C". You're forging the tools that you need to in order to apprehend the HGA and you're already opening pathways between the HGA and your conscious mind.

As for the Abramelin Operation itself, it is entirely for you to ascertain whether or not you are ready to undertake it. However, it might be worth remembering that, tradition has it, to undertake the Abramelin and not complete it can have catastrophic spiritual and mental implications. Beginning the working has a long-standing association with completely overturning the magician's internal landscape within a very short period of time and in order to put things "the right way up" again you have to complete the working. Georg Dehn's translation of the Abramelin text (essential reading if you're seriously interested in this) puts the working at eighteen months long; do you have the stamina to engage in intense magical work everyday for eighteen months? If your resources haven't been tested/developed by intermediate goals first, it's the equivalent of telling someone who's learning to walk that they have to perform with the Bolshoi ballet.

In one of his most lucid moments, Crowley summarised success at attaining K&C as:
Invoke often! Enflame Thyself with Prayer!
Take that at face value. While you are doing the work you are currently doing, take time to pray, passionately, to your HGA. Ask it to guide you and direct your footsteps. Open yourself to its subtle influences while working hard to make yourself a fitting home for its presence. I knew a magician who even used to sing pop songs to his HGA each morning (Josh Groban's You Raise Me Up was a favourite). The point is to engage in exercises which rapture you into the presence of the HGA. Build personal devotions into your life now and when the time comes to complete the Abramelin working you'll do so from a solid foundation.

Kk. I figured basically prayers daily, continue my normal theurgical rituals and add the bornless rite, plus dedicating food and showers to purification and such. Maybe also some morning meditation. Not actually getting loads of pine wood for a room or a hollow out in a forest. Not exactly by the book. I think the most popular version of the abramelin says 6 months, you say georg dehn's version is 18 months, and I think I heard Franz Bardon said it was 10 years, and I've heard of people doing it in as little as 2 months, so it sounds like it depends on the person. Since it'll be a while until I can guarantee living in the same place for 6 months at a time. (I'm an American who's studying in Germany, so between visiting home in the summer and traveling Europe and moving from a dorm to an apartment and such, being able to do that stuff in a pure place with all the tools and an altar every day for 6 months may not be possible for a while. So I'll just hope A:by then I'll be prepared, and B it won't take too long.

I've never done any structured study besides two years of Builders of the Adytum, I've never done a ritual in my life, and I have K+C of my HGA.

I had it when I was little, it left when I was 5. It told me it would come back when I was 30, and I would be really sad until then.

That was true. I was miserable. It did come back at 30. It's the thing I'm married to now.

It left for those 25 years so I could get my Saturn stuff out of the way...living a false identity trying to achieve in things I'm not naturally suited for.
