I've been listening to the Incredible String Band a lot lately. They're a psychedelic folk group from the 60s and 70s and their lyrics are rife with references to magick and mysticism. I also am a big fan of the Grateful Dead, and a lot of their lyrics deal with this area as well.
and here's one of the many versions of the song "Dark Star":
Dark Star wrote:Dark star crashes
pouring its light into ashes
Reason tatters
the forces tear loose from the axis
Searchlight casting
for faults in the clouds of delusion
shall we go,
you and I
While we can?
Through
the transitive nightfall of diamonds?
Mirror shatters
in formless reflections of matter
Glass hand dissolving
to ice petal flowers revolving
Lady in velvet
recedes in the nights of goodbye
Shall we go,
you and I
While we can?
Through
the transitive nightfall of diamonds?
"love is the whole and more than all" - ee cummings
"Wake now, discover that you are the song that the morning brings" - Robert Hunter, as sung by Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead
Therion has a few magickal songs i like..who would have thought? I actually listen to this kind of music while performing a ritual because it sets the mood really well, and also so my girlfriend wont hear my utterances. Hopefully the deities still can though.

Often I'll use music from video game soundtracks. I've had great success with the accompanying of music from Legacy of Kain, Final Fantasy and Hexen, in particular
"...You must never lose sight of who and what you are, and what a threat you can be, by your very existence. We are making history right now, every day. Always keep the wider historical and social picture in mind. That is an important key to both Lesser and Greater Magic. See the patterns and fit things together as you want the pieces to fall into place. Do not be swayed by herd constraints—know that you are working on another level entirely from the rest of the world." -Anton LaVey
Interesting stuff here. I tend not to listen to any of this in ritual but to say music hasnt had a big impact on my development would be a lie.
@DarkSchneider: Some game tracks are as good as movie tracks.. i dont understand the mentality because it was written for a game it was 'better'
@Spida: Therion are quite good but theyve become a bit hit and miss for me in regards to their recentish albums. I need to give them a reappraisal maybe.
I forgot this gem, which is how I acquired not so subtle inspiration for the name of my blog.

Some absolutely great bands in this thread!
I am very much eclectic with the exception of very popular music and rap.
Each day I listen to songs ranging from Mozart to Nachtmahr.
My favorite genres are Classical, Industrial, EBM, Goth and Metal. When it comes to magical workings though I pick "theme-songs". Whatever I want the results to be the music has to be conducive to it. Melechesh is one band I use very often and in particular the songs Grand Gathas of Baal Sin, Multiple Truths, Touching the Spheres of Sephiroth and Sacred Geometry. They also have some great intermezzos without vocals that set a great atmosphere.
But the lyrics...oh boy they resonate so well.
Draw the strength with each
and every breath of consecrated air
Recipes for ritual... The scent of occult
10 spheres and triple magic towers
Quiver with force it's a gateway to the Scource
Three glowing triads of seraphic plains
Induct the core to the Chaldee secret doctrine
The flaming sword & coiled wisdom serpent
Materialize on paths amid the orbs
The Realm of Ninety Nine Percent is revealed
Foundation of all, the Tree of Life
I stretch my hand
Reaching for the chosen sphere
It's cold, it's pure, it's liquid
Discovering the dark archetype
Exist with the concept of Sfirot
Qliphoth the antithesis
I embrace your presence
Amaranthine realm, ceaseless scope
The flaming sword & coiled wisdom serpent
Materialize on paths amid the orbs
The Realm of Ninety Nine Percent is revealed
Foundation of all, the Tree of Life
Enter the sphere, leave the mundane realm
Draw magic from the cosmic helm
Believe in All
Believe in None
For more Lovecraftian vibes I make my own soundtracks that resemble the ambient tracks of sci-fi/horror movies.
As an LHP practitioner this song is very appropriate for me- 'In My Sword I Trust' by Ensiferum. I believe in my own power and take full responsibility for it. I am addicted to metal songs. I listen to them while cleansing myself and before practising magic rituals. This enables to feel confident and strengthens my mentality. Here is the link-
I can't wait to try out some of the music mentioned here! My stuff has gotten old.
My magic of late has been going into paintings during which I've been listening to Pink Floyd and Bach's cello solos. Surprised that I like the Bach! Sometimes a litle Jethro Tull and YES works nicely.
