Where can I find an egyptian priest?

Post by Occult Forum Archive »

Original post: corbypete

As many of you may know, thousands of years ago pharoahs and kings used to have personal high priests to carry out magickal workings on behalf of them due to the complexity and time of rituals, and as you know they were very rich and powerful.

Do you know where one could find such priests today?

I don't mean where are they on the astral plane, rather where could one find a modern practicing priest?

That will be very hard. I hope to learn alot form books... But only they can take you so far. I do suggest the Ath-ka-Ptah found at: http://www.ath-kaptah.org And sorry if the link doesn't work. It is related to the Nefer Rite of Freemasonry... As for actual cults and what not? You might have to visit Egypt. =)
Peace.

Nice idea, but no dice. I lived in Cairo for a while (UNEF II posting in 1977) and had a good look around while I was there.

At that time Egypt was a cosmopolitan Moslem country with a large and vigorous Christian population. The closest to ancient Egyptian religion were the Coptic Christians. They are an Orthodox variant with an even more deeply mystic tradition than is normally found in the Eastern Orthodox churches.

It was quite easy to find Egyptian nationals with at least some knowledge of ancient times, and they are all quite proud of their past. You could find reproductions of every common amulet of varying quality ranging from chrome and faience, to gold and gemstone in the Qahili-qahan. You could find spectacular stage productions of their past perform at the Sphinx at night, complete with fireworks and light shows. It was also before Sadat took the mummies off display, so you could see Ramses the Great in the Cairo Museum for 50 piastre.

But you will not find anyone who will admit to following the ancient beliefs - at least not to a foriegner.

hi

well if youre looking for the knowledge of the high priests at least their rituals and magic related knowledge youll have to do what the scholars do, do a lot of research im afraid only today i managed to find an egyptian text for the Ceremony of the Overthrowing of Aepep theyre texts are all scattered, i have the honour of writting a uni dissertation on egyptian magic so i know a lot of the texts or at least have access to many of them. as far as the religious side is concerned i also follow the faith being a solo priest and i had to learn from books the hardest part to start with is separating the truth from the authors who giveyou a lot of rubbish, that gets easier the more you read lol

Do a web search on Kemetic Religion...it's about as close as you are gonna find without a time machine.

For example:

http://www.kemet.org/home.html
http://www.hethert.org/
http://www.per-ankh.org/index.html

I would presume if there are any remants of the Egyptian priesthood left still; you are going to have better luck looking into areas of Cairo where there are many prcticing traditional herbal healers. The markets are full of weird and fantastic stuff!

The traditional healers that I encountered in Cairo were Moslems and had Islamic explanations for their practices.

Do you have a Priest/priestess of a specific god/goddess in mind? Or are you looking for one who deals with all the gods?
There are many modern practicing priests and priesteses through out the world. If you want exact knowledge of the old priests, you're out of luck. Most of that knowledge is long gone. But there are modern Priests and Prestesses who dedicate themselves to certain gods and goddesses.

You could try talking to Michael J. Fox.

Because of the movie "Back to the Future". Time travel would be the only way to meet an actual Egyptian priest or priestess in the flesh.

Does it have to be an ancient egyptian priest who teaches exactly what the ancients taught? Or will a modern one do?

Actually, Shinotenshi - Everything we do know, even if we try to replicate it 100%... It would still be modern. ;-)
By Ancient - You mean one from the ancient times
and by
Modern- You mean one living now.
I believe all modren Priests and Priestesses (You including Shinotenshi) were once ancint priests - It makes sense.
Peace.

Very true, But what I meant was does it have to be exact replica of the ancient ways or will the modern inturpritation due? I know for sure I don't do things like they did because I don't have access to many of the things they had.

Actually, I'd been told by someone a couple months ago that I had been an egyptican Priest/Priestess (she didn't mention if I was male or female) in a past life. It could be true. Donno. I don't remember any past lives so I honestly couldn't say.

Statisticly, yeah it's much more likely I was male. I'm not totally sure if I should beleive her or not. She also told me I was an Egyptian Pharaohess in another life. Since there were only two female Pharaohs to my knowledge (and please correct me if I am wrong, I'd love to know of others) and one was Greek not Egyptian that really narrows things down. Thuthmose the second's wife, Hatshepsut. Since I'm not one of those people who go around believeing I was someone important in a past life, I chose neither to believe nor dissbelieve.

I lean a bit more towards believe only because she knew without me telling her that I was a high priestess of Anubis and close to obsessed (maybe close is too light a word) with ancient Egypt (you can't tell just be looking at me I don't wear anything that advertieses my faith). That was kinda creepy.

And I'm much more apt to believe her over the person who told me that in this life I'm a half Succubus. *shrug* I chose not to believe nor dissbelieve either of them.

In Egypt. Happy hunting.

Shinotenshi, there were actually a few women Pharosâ??s but the only ones that survived long enough to be recognized were Hapshetsut and possibly Nefertiti. And as an interesting tid bit, legend has it Merlin was the spawn of an incubus and a nun so he would have been half- incubus. An intresting theory as to the origin of "wizards" and such.
Shinotenshi, there were actually a few women Pharosâ??s but the only ones that survived long enough to be recognized were Hapshetsut and possibly Nefertiti.
Actually, Nefertiti was never a Pharaoh. She was the wife of the heritic king, Akhenaten, who took the entire religion of ancient Egypt and threw it out the window replacing it with his own personal sun god Aten. This was the first monotheistic religion in recorded history. Though hightly respected and renouned for her beauty, Nefertiti was never in charge. Akhenaten was succeeded by his son (some stories do say half brother but the most accepted is son) Tutanaten who changed his name when he became Pharaoh to Tutankamun in order to remove himself from his father and the religious upheaval and restore the old gods. Go king Tut!

As for Merlin... Cool!

That is a late Christian corruption of the Merlin legend. Read Geoffrey of Monmouth's "Life of Merlin" for a better idea of Merlin's antecedants.

Okay, I'm willing to admit when I may be wrong. There is the possibility Nefertit was a Pharaohess. A few Egyptologist do believe that Nefertiti changed her name to Smenkhkare (who I hadn't heard of until now. He/she ruled for a few short years before Tutankamun) and ruled as Pharaoh after her husband.

This though is under high debate because most scientists believe they found Smenkhkare's tomb and he was for sure male.

I have found an Egyptian priest for you, a high priest of Amun at Thebes. His name is Pinedjem II; his mummy is waiting for you at the British Museum. Im not trying to make a joke, I had a spiritual experience viewing a certain painting in the Louvre.

Personally, I avoid such things as mummies and ancient ruins. I'm not sure that they're a healthy thing for living people to focus their energy on. But lots of folks would disagree.
