It was a number of years ago. We had a member of our community who was into the practice of Dark Magic. He was always trying to call demons to do his bidding. I don't think he ever summon anyone very powerful but the energy he was creating was disrupting to our peace. I was asked if there was anything I could do. I tried to talk to him. He wouldn't listen ad actually threatened me. So I put a binding on him. I bound him from doing any harm to our family, friends or himself.
It worked only to well. For a while things settled down in the house. Three weeks later he was found to have hanged himself.
I subsequently found out that he was a very troubled young man. To this day I carry Davids Child with me i my heart.
I've never done a binding since.

technically a binding is a form of curse. people often forget that. It's a curse of disempowering/weakening the target, and/or affecting the target's free will.
that said, i don't think you should blame yourself for his suicide. Clearly there was a very volatile situation brewing in his mind, sort of a time bomb, and you can't realistically take on guilt for simply being an interactive part of his environment when he 'went off'.
what was the first thing i ever used magic for? I honestly don't remember. It would have been around age 5 or 6... i think... by the time i finished junior high I had practiced a wide variety of forms of magic. I lacked an education in the field though, so I didn't realize that I was "reinventing the wheel" quite a bit. I didn't especially consider myself a witch or anything, but I was a fairly avid magic user up until age 16. I got sucked into the christian cult at that age, and abandoned a very promising start in the occult. I didn't renounce that religion and renew my occult path in earnest seriousness until my later 20's.
I kinda wish I knew what it was I did first though, I never really thought about it.

The first thing I ever used it for was a protection spell for myself... Had just felt there were some bad things happening to me in my life at the time (I was around 14 i believe) abusive family life and also other things that seemed geared towards me from a negative energy source, or possible enemy. But after performing the ritual things began to clear and change for the better.

Thank you Philoneus for the information. I will have to try your method soon. Very kind of you to write it up for me.
As for a binding, I agree with Kath that it is a form of curse. It should not be done unless necessary, but if one have to to defend oneself then that is what one have to do. However I think one should be careful with binding someone for doing magick one do not agree with.

My first use was a candle magick spell for healing of a friend's parent.
