First Experience As A 'Host' For a Deity

Post by lepidoptera »

A few nights ago I performed a very successful invocation of the Goddess Morrigan. I'm afraid it might have been a little too successful. I'm very honored that it worked, and I made offerings to thank Morrigan for heeding me, but I've never experienced anything on this level before. I'm just a little a shaken. My best friend and I performed the invocation, using me as the host or vessel. I've had successful invocations in the past with other Gods and Goddesses, but never ones that resulted in this kind of possession. We made all the right offerings. I recited poetry for Morrigan and recited the incantations and performed the ritual to the letter. Now this is when it gets tricky for me...

From what I remember, I finished the invocation, made the offerings, and proceeded around the circle clockwise. FROM WHAT I REMEMBER, I just walked around the circle a few times, focusing my thoughts on Morrigan, and I tended the fire in the center now and then. But according to my best friend, a whole lot of other things happened that I'm not aware of.

My best friend, whom I trust dearly, joined me in the invocation. According to HER story, she said that after I finished the offerings, I proceeded to eat them and speaking another language. We invoked Morrigan at the Full Moon, feeling that she would be a stern and appropriate diety to witness a thorough cleansing of negativity for my best friend. I don't remember us performing that cleansing, but she tells me that Morrigan completed it with her. Using my body, Morrigan walked around the circle, performed the cleansing ritual on my friend, and consumed all the offerings (we even had offerings for other spirits that I worked with before, just as a thank you, but I guess she ate their offerings too...) . My associate says she spoke in and out of english and chanted a few times. I promise you, I do not remember any of this.

Like I said, according to my perspective, I walked around the circle and tended the fire, but at some point, I do not recall, I fell down. I remember being on the ground and my friend helping me up. It started to rain and we decided to release the invocation and wrap up for the night. I had such a headache and couldn't understand the time lapse, for me it was at tops 10 minutes, but two hours had apparently gone by. I felt physically sick for a while.

I've been reading a few posts on here that have dealt with invocations and possession, so I know some of you out there have had thorough experience. This is the first time anything like this happened for me, and I'm a little shaken up by it. I just want to know, is what I experienced 'normal' for what I was intending to do? Has anyone else experienced something similar to this? What's your story and what's your advice?

Thanks loves! Blessed be!

I 've been informed by a friend, who has experience in this kind of invocation with The Morrigan, that your experience is indeed consistent with a successful invocation.

I 've never done this kind of working in regard to Her,but I was intrigued by your post.

Possession is an interesting concept to me. Are there many known instances of people remaining conscious for the experience?
While I imagine it would be more frightening to be fully aware of the loss of control of one's body, I would still much prefer to know and remember the experience. o.o

I feel a lot better about it now that I've had time to reflect on it. It would have been interesting to have witnessed and remember this "possession", but I have no recollection. I don't know how it works with other deities and spirits, but I'm glad this experience wasn't like a complete black-out. I have a clear memory of what happened in my perspective, so what I've come to conclude is that maybe when I invoked the Morrigan, perhaps my astral body continued to walk the circle and behave as if nothing happened, while the Morrigan controlled my physical body. Like I said, would have been interesting to have witnessed it myself, but I take my friend's word for it that these things happened. I'm thinking about having her try the invocation or having someone else give it a shot, if it's as successful I'd like to observe the transformation for myself, even get to speak with the Morrigan. I'm extremely grateful that I had my experience though, you can be sure I made all kinds of offerings to thank Her.

Interesting story. I would say try recording the event with either audio or video. If nothing else you can use this to help you see what you did while under the spell. Also use a watch.

Have had no interactions with morrigan before, not that I recall offhand. What did y9ur friend say she was like?
