On Divination

Post by AIN666 »

Divination methods such as the Tarot, Runes, and the Ouija board should act as oracles rather than future-predicting devices. These tools can and should be used to help the magician access and gain insight from his/her own subconscious mind. These oracles act in much the same way as dreams - both oracles and dreams relay messages and insights from the deep subconsciousness of the psyche. In a dream, the subconscious will relate abstract ideas using concrete forms; the mind expresses abstract ideas using common imagery. This is why we dream about things that we see in the real world, and also why what we see in our dreams is usually not what the dream is actually about. The Ouija board acts in much the same way - the subconscious mind communicates abstract ideas to us using familiar means, such as presenting to us some intelligence or "spirit" to convey the message for us. If the Ouija is taken in the context of "its all in the mind," then the Ouija is a great tool that magicians should make use of. If the Ouija is taken in the context of "OMG a spirit is talking to me!" then the Ouija is nothing more than childish play. The same applies to the Tarot, the Runes, and every other divinatory system.
