I find the statement that the woman was 'likely drinking a martini' sexist.

How?
I'm curious as to why you think this.

It was supposed to be a joke.
However, viewing it with some hindsight on the matter, the mere assumption that a woman would be drinking such an obviously 'girly' drink is the part that might be considered sexist.
I really don't care though, I enjoyed the joke. I thought it was the right amount of dirty appeal without being distasteful.

Consider that it is just text. Nobody will be able to see with 100% the intention behind a straight text simply because gesture, mimic and everything else which would be necessary to identify it as such are absent. A sentence could mean one thing or the complete opposite, can be serious or not.Haelos wrote:It was supposed to be a joke.

It sometimes is good to give a joke a smily or at least some other little obvious tune at the end to mark it as such

The point of this thread seems lost on me.

Ah, ok Haelos.I think a wee smiley at the end would have helped too, lol. [grin] [crazy] [lol]
But, whenever someone mentions Martini as a cocktail, my mind always goes straight to this:

"Shaken, not stirred"... of course, lol. [greensmile]
So maybe your point is valid the other way round too?
Maybe it depends on where you are and what memes, tropes and idioms you are most exposed to?
I grew up with Bond films.
And I didn't think this would become a thread either, but it's absolutely fine with me that it has and the discussion is interesting enough for me to want to reply to anyway. [thumbup]

Re: Sexy guy walks into a bar...
The Bond reference is not one that would've come to my mind first, but after you mentioned it it's the only thing that makes sense to me now.
Next time I'll do better to show my post as sarcasm rather than seriousness.
