It rains a lot here, but we like it. In Scotland you can tell it's Summer cos the rain gets warmer. [yay]

I love the rainy weather too. But the media says that people there thinks that the weather is gloomy. Coming from a tropical climate it seems to me like a nice weather. I am not much into sunny summer. I love the winter and snow too.Nahemah wrote:I don't know, Napoli.

Rotterdam, the Netherlands. I really do not like it here. It's supposedly so liberal, if you believe the media, but it's a far cry from reality. The Netherlands was great when I was younger but this country is changing fast. Racial tensions, LGBT bashing, egotism...pretty much like everywhere else but because it's such a small country such changes are felt more harshly.
It's just too small for all the people here and that also means that actual nature is very difficult to find.
Mind you, it's not all bad. This country has a history that defies its space taken up on the map. It is still more liberal than most countries in Europe today and it has a very distinctive culture with tiny inner-cultures per province. No matter how small the distance, there are extreme differences in the way Dutch is spoken. For instance, somebody from Rotterdam is easily spotted within the Hague and they are only a forty minute drive apart! I do enjoy those things very much.
It's probably got more to do with the fact I never really felt at home here. It's an okay country but it feels like I have overstayed on a holiday. It was great at first but I feel restless. Rotterdam as a city is too modern for my tastes. Sadly, most of it was bombed during WWII but they also modernize a lot, getting rid of what little history is left. I feel that the city is becoming soulless because of it. The energy here is frantic and I'm more of a laid-back country-boy [lol]
Currently looking to emigrate to Germany (Eifel region) with my partner where we both feel much more at home. We visit there every month just to stay sane. The Netherlands is just not our country but I'm certain a lot of people will enjoy what I don't. For tourists it's definitely worth the visit; there is so much history to be discovered here.
