Turkish Coffee Divination

Post by Occult Forum Archive »

I am not sure how many of you know about this but this is a very common way of divination in Turkey. It isnt usually taken very seriously and done for fun unless it is done by someone ''gifted''. I guess it is similiar to reading tea leaves. You drink the thick Turkish coffee it gets collected at the bottom also leaving marks all over inside the cup then you close the cup by turning it upside and let it cool off.
2 days ago, our neighbour lady, my mom's friend was here and she is somehow good at this. I dont usually like coffee but had a cup so she could look mine up. Her reading was pretty accurate and I was actually surprised that she was able to know so many things.

We had folks offer to do this for us (for a fee, of course) when we were in Istanbul. It got to the point where I just always ordered the ubiquitous apple tea.

My girlfriend is Armenian and they have that same method :-) unfortunately my g/f absolutely sucks at it. hehe.

The reason all these methods work is they give something random for latent psychic abilities to "grab onto." as you can see, those coffees leave a great mix of patterns to work with!!

Actually it is illegal to do it for a fee. Some cafes offer ''free divination'' if you drink from them. Of course the coffee is more expensive than usual. I have heard that once the police took the closed cups as evidence which made me laugh hardly.
I agree about the reader's''grabbing onto'' thing. That's probably the way it works.

It's also called cafemancy the same priciplal as tassomancy (tea leaf reading) except using coffee. The finely ground turkish coffee is best for this. However one can use a cup of coffee from a coffee maker too and add a pinch of grounds in with a little coffee at the bottom after drinking. Like tassomancy it's a very fun and socible form of divination.

I heard they do something similar in Ethiopia (they are close by anyways) but burn fragrant incenses on hot coals during a coffee drinking session. (Just incase someone doesnt know this already coffee orginated in in the middles east/ North Africa region. Just something fun to know about.)

Coffee has stimulating properties after all so I presume there are other ways to devine with it. Kool hey! :D

I have a cousin in Turkey, she is amazing with that. Every year when i meet her I ask her to look for me. Whatever she says comes true. She can even say like, you will get in trouble with someone within three months, his name begins with an s and it has a r in it also.
Once she knew that I would meet a special girl with curly long blond hair at my own seize.
The coffee divination should be taken serious. Some people are very good in it.

Yes its quite common here in greece too, its a standard way to waste time on an afternoon with neighbourhood friends over chit chat and laugh.
Of course it cannot warrant any serious attentions from me, my

trinkets used by grandmothers! *cough* *cough*.
I`m going to go stare at my rug now, excuse me.

We have a similar practice in the West where one read the coffee residue in the bottom of the cup, this only work if you boil coffee the old fashioned way and do not use instant or a coffee maker with a filter though. I like both tea leaves and coffee divination, I find to be very useful.

Actually, kafemanteia or coffee divination is very accurate. Here in Greece it's a very common way of seeing things that you can't see in other ways...remember the witches of smyrnhi...all this wisdom hidden in a cup of coffee.

As a devout coffee drinker myself, I would be very interested in learning more on this subject. Do you know of any books or articles I'd be able get to read up on this subject?
