Friendship bracelets, as Talsimans

Post by Micr0cosM »

Many moons ago in a hazy room of sweet smoke a young hippy chick taught me how to make a friendship bracelet.

They are easy to make, and are just basically coloured thread knotted together to form a pattern.

So more recently I decided to try using them as a kind of talisman.

The process of making them takes an hour or two of staring at a thread and making hundreds of little knots. Its quite meditative and in a ritual setting can lead to a light trance.

So you choose what intent you want to imbue into it and turn it into a statement of intent with three sentences, as you tie three knots at a time. You set up your ritual space with relevant colours, sigils, scents, sounds, prayers etc, and with each knot you tie you state your intent and visualise it entering the knot.

You could also then further charge it using whatever methods you would usually use for a talisman.

Once done, you tie the bracelet on your wrist. Now these are designed to not be taken off until cut off or they fall off, which can take literally years. So these are best done for the purpose of binding certain energies to you on a semi-permanent basis or for example binding a bad habit or strengthening your resolve on an issue.

I'm sure there are other uses it can be used for. I use them to symbolise magickal oaths so I am reminded constantly of their presence.
“Science is a way of talking about the universe in words that bind it to a common reality.
Magic is a method of talking to the universe in words that it cannot ignore.
The two are rarely compatible.”
― Neil Gaiman, The Books of Magic
