I think this is an interesting take. I'm tired of people shoehorning Tantra and Satanism into the same cultural framework when they don't have that much in common apart from their antinomianism. It's nice to see him acknowledge the parts that exceed or don't fit LHP/RHP dualism. Also I'd like to see more documentation on how and when LaVey was influenced by Tantra. I always read him as an anti-Christian reactionary and don't see the connection to Hinduism in his work, although I'm happy to be shown otherwise. Also one crucial difference between Vamamarga Tantra and Western LHP/Satanism is in their outcomes. Most tantrikas are still working toward merging with the Divine (albeit a quicker and dirtier route than the Vedas provide) while most LHP magicians are trying to self-deify as an isolate intelligence. They may use similar tactics and occupy similar positions in their respective cultures but they're aimed toward different ends.

I fully agree with both you and Piazza. I wish people knew how spiritual and powerful the tradition of Tantra is. There is more to it than ritual sex. In the West many people shun the likes of Satanism thinking that it is evil. But in the case of Eastern traditions it's followers look at the antinomian paths as merely another paradigm. In fact, I think that the Gods of the LHP and RHP paradigms of those traditions are the same but have different manifestations. It is not about self deification but about realising the oneness with the divine via different paths.

That is the case in the Western traditions. But for the Eastern traditions it is one and the same, that is the union with the Source.

As far as I know the whole Western LHP "self-deification" concept is also a very new one, and frankly I've yet to see any evidence that it's something which is possible, rather it seems to extend from the aspirations of Western LHP practitioners who misunderstand concepts such as dissolving the ego or merging with the divine.

Yes, the western LHP is the one and only LHP in the modern world. Heterodoxy is still an enslavement to the RHP, and when you add on the end goal of disillusion it's clear that the supposed Eastern LHP is not left at all.

@Rin, actually self deification goes back to predynastic Egypt, and appears long before we even have texts from India. It's pretty much the oldest belief on the matter.

Before the domination of the Osirian cult pharaoh's believed they would become among the gods, rather than merge with Osiris. A split between these two views can be seen in the pyramid texts.
