Mysterious places and anomalous zones often attract attention from both paranormal researchers and ordinary people, including travelers. To explore such places, it’s not necessary to visit them physically—you can use Tarot cards and photos. Here is a spread designed for quick diagnostics:
4. The nature and essence of the anomaly.
5. Weather manifestations in this place.
6. Animal behavior here.
7. What do people feel in this place?
8. Influence on the human psyche.
9. Influence on physical condition.
This method was applied to three locations: the Crooked Forest (Poland), an abandoned hotel in Bali, and the “Suicide Forest” in Japan.
There are many theories about why around 400 trees in this forest developed such unusual shapes in the 1930s. Tarot suggests human involvement (King of Pentacles), likely through attempts to manipulate tree growth (8 of Swords, 3 of Wands). These attempts failed, and the initiator did not achieve the desired result (7 of Swords), after which an unknown force inherent to the forest intervened.
This force manifests through strong gusty winds (10 of Swords) and the absence of wildlife settling there (5 of Pentacles). Humans do not feel strong anxiety (4 of Cups), but the energy has a mildly suppressive effect: people become introspective (Page of Pentacles), and even metabolic and aging processes may slow down (The World).
The luxurious “P. I. Bedugul Taman Rekreasi Hotel & Resort” was under construction from 1993, but in 2002 it was suddenly abandoned under unclear circumstances.
Tarot suggests: the owner (Page of Wands) invested money (6 of Pentacles), but luck (Wheel of Fortune) turned away after 9 years. Thus, another mysterious abandoned place appeared.
This partially aligns with the official version that the project belonged to the son of an Indonesian president who couldn’t complete construction.
The spirit of this place does not tolerate crowds (Hermit). People seem to be pushed away. Inside, it can feel very cold (3 of Swords), and animals behave aggressively (Devil). The place feels “alive” (9 of Wands), and its energy may even drive sensitive visitors to distress (9 of Swords). Caution is advised; alcohol consumption is strongly discouraged (Justice).
This is a place where dozens of people die every year. Aokigahara, located at the base of Mount Fuji, is considered one of the most well-known sites associated with suicides, with 70–100 bodies found annually.
The first three cards suggest a natural origin: the forest formed due to volcanic activity about 1,200 years ago (5 & 8 of Pentacles).
The anomaly is associated with The Hanged Man archetype—suggesting a “pulling” or absorbing force, like a vortex.
The weather is calm and cool (Star), wildlife is present (10 of Pentacles). People may feel watched (Page of Swords), experience emotional surges (9 of Cups), and easily get lost—the place seems to “draw people in” (Hanged Man).
The presence of reversed Hanged Man cards may symbolically point to one of the most common methods of death associated with this place.
