Catholicism in particular is chalked full of magic and ritual. Candle magic is an example. (Used for healing)...and then there's prayer. Perhaps the use of semantics turns off followers of any christian sect because the word magic is considered heretical (is that a word?). But the idea is the same, causing change in conformity with Will, whether it be YHVH's Will or someone elses.
