Egyptian God Set = Satan?
Original post: amunptah777
PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE don't compare them.
There is not such thing as Satan. There is no dichotomy. There is no such thing as Evil.
Set was simply the deity that the northern invaders worshiped...of course the ancient kemetans would think.."WOW that god SUX!!" But Set is NOT Satan.
Go with me on this...
"Set is to Satan as the neighbors dog is to Snoopy"

Satan means adversary, so yes Set is an adversary to Jehovah.

Then why is that the Temple of Set ackowledge themselves at Satanists and yet worship Set?

Because Satanist mean anyone not of "the" faith technically. So anyone is a satanist who does not worship the holy trinity. Even wiccans are technically satanists. It's cliche for the uninformed to claim themselves satanists.

Set isnt the god of destruction Apep is and he protected Ra from Apep.
One of there invaders identified there God with Set and because of the rise of the Osiris cult. Set was demonized and replaced Apep.
Set is just the God of the Wilderness, desert. And he was a needed part just like winter is need for spring.
If you want to find a figurehead for "Satan" in egyption mythology then use Apep. Set was one of the good guys, he worked for Ra. He just wasnt a good brother :p

Did you not read my post, Satan is a word. It means adversary. Not, evil senseless, destruction. Apep is just that. Anyone can be Satan...
Ok, just did some VERY basic research.
Here Satan:
1 Samuel 29:4: The Philistines were distrustful of David, fearing that he would be a satan. (translated "adversary" or "someone who will turn against us").
http://www.religioustolerance.org/chr_sat2.htm
So there you go, get with it. I JUST told you what Satan is. Using the correct definition, I think Russia is a satan to the US, and the EU.
Ra is the King of the Gods, ruler of all but he mainly concerns himself with the heavens. Now the Contest between Set and his peers was for the Earthly realm, which Osiris was until Set killed him. Therefore Set is a satan to Osiris. Set killed Osiris, and hunted down his child afterwards.
Egyptian Gods are not just personalities, they are respective parts of cities, sciences, and ALSO terrain you might say.
The word Satan is largely misunderstood, and is misleading due to the pop culture of the witch trials, and what-not.
Are they same?

Well, this is my opinion, seeing as Sutekh is one of my patrons.
He and "Satan" are two separate entities. In fact, I wonder if "Satan" even exists or if "Satan" was just a way for early Christians to control people. Kind of like the whole thing about how they rewrote the bible and lied to people to get them to hand over money for a ticket into heaven.
Seeing as the ancient Egyptians did not believe there was such things as "good" or "evil", only chaos and order, he couldn't possibly be any entity ruling over evil. For one thing, he fights against Apep on Ra's side in the solar barque every morning, according to mythology, so that would be a huge contradiction. Apep is the giant serpent of Uncreation, and Sutekh is one of his greatest enemies, other than Ra.
Chaos is not evil, just like Order is not always good. He might be chaotic but when it comes down to it, that doesn't make him "Satan", a being attributed to ultimate evil.

They were both troublemakers, they both whined alot, and well they both had their reasons for becoming the adversary.
In Egyptian mythology, Sutekh (Set) is only the adversary after a point in history where they kind of turned against him. For a long time, he was acknowledged and celebrated as a necessary god.
In fact, I don't think that Egyptian mythology paints him to be the adversary. That title belongs mostly to Apep.
Watch Zeitgeist the Movie.
In it they explain that jesus is a solar deity whose story was stolen from Horus (born at winter solstice of a virgin birth, performed miracles, walked on water, died for 3 days and was risen). Horus is the sun personified, and Set is night personified. So in a lot of ways Set could be seen as Satan's predecessor.
That's something I've never understood. The supposed similarities between Heru and Jesus. Heru was not born of a virgin birth (seeing as Aset put all of Wesir's parts back together and boinked him, conceiving Heru - as well as the fact that they had most likely had sex before that point as a married couple). Heru was a god. Of course he performed "miracles". I have no idea if he walked on water, but I haven't read any mythology about that. I don't know about the thing of Heru dying and being risen.
Actually, Heru is the god of the sky. Ra is the sun personified.
Sutekh is chaos, the desert, and the god of storms.
The night personified would be Nut.

Lol. How do we know what really goes on in the minds of giraffes anyway?
They could already be dark and evil, people just think they're all cute and peaceful.
And that might actually make sense. No one has any better ideas of what his head is modeled after.... his ears look giraffe like.
