The definition of the third eye is simply: "Sight Beyond Sight." Traditionally, it has to do with meta-cognitive neural activity. The neurons of the "Gut" are what people traditionally talk about in relation to the third eye. The applications and dynamics are where some seem to get hung up. The question traditionally has been how to develop neural activity in the salient areas and how to better interface with that neural activity on a cognitive level. This is exactly where people go wrong, because the third eye does not operate on a cognitive level. We have to take it on its own terms or not at all. [shh]

While I do agree that you don't NEED them. Assuming that the consensus is that the pineal gland is the third eye, you have to take into consideration that the brain functions through the release of chemicals. Therefore the idea using a substance that changes the way those chemicals are released and the way Neuro transmitters act is very relevant.

If we accept the principals of macro and micro, as above so below, as within so without then this might work. While I don't think its "mostly" chemical I do believe DozingGreen feels the same way based on the end of the last post.

ALL of life is subjective. Even so-called objective, measurable data is subjective in that the study is controlled to exclude or include specific variables. In other words in a lab environment. We ALL need to widen our gaze!

The Pineal Gland insterestingly becomes erect when the eyes become exposed to dim light and flacid in direct sunlight. Dr. Marion Chitty related this to the opening and closing of the third eye.

There is an old tale from India about the blind men and the elephant. One grabs the leg and says the elephant is like a tree. One grabs the trunk and says the elephant is like a great snake. Well the third eye is something we can not see physically but it does exist. Robert Bruce calls the energy centres of clairvoyant vision the Brow Centre and speaks of the Vision Screen. In truth there are multiple energy centres which provide clairvoyant vision to the magickian.

There is a round energy centre above the nose in the centre of the forehead which is not alone in providing clairvoyance but is the beginning of it. Without the development of this centre the magickian is not clairvoyant...yet. It can develop and will manifest on any human who has either developed that vibration which affords its opening in this life or previous lives. The vibration ascends with pathworking , dreamstate projections and lessons, OBE, meditation, clairvoyant practice in dim light, et cetera. All can be more effective in dim light in sacred chamber and in altered states of consciousness ie trance.

The magickian takes energy into the body with breath and muscles and this air contains the pranic energy which opens the energy body. Once opened the centres continue to manifest developing ever more sophisticated networks.

Firs the Third Eye then the physical eyes in two hemispheres known as the Cobra Eyes orange and blue clairvoyantly affording the right eye to see the orange firey unformed future and the left eye to see the blue watery past.

Then the lower eye centres develop as the Orange eye biforcates into an upper and lower hemisphere and the red eye of earth forms below in the bottom half of the right eye. Similarly on the bottom half of the blue left eye forms a green energy centre.

Subsequent pathworking causes the nature of their vibration to change and the clairvoyant colour reflects that so the Eyes of the Dragon are multifaceted having primary, secondary and tertiary colouring early in development.

Now the centre does not stay the same either . The third eye splits and forms facets like a diamond and is called the Diamond Eye of Sinandra. This all looks like a Fleur de Lis but now there are supernal eyes that open and more centres on the bridge of the nose. Each sinus cavity becomes an eye as prana flows through it developing it eventually . So the third eye or brow centre is a myriad of wheels of energy centres;

And this is not the end , the path is infinite and eternal and the eye demonstrates this with ever more expanding centres. Around the great third eye come 8 tiny satelliting moons

The eyes are connected to the ears and the moonstone becomes brilliant in colours resembling a miniature Kaballahistic Tree of Life.

And eyes will form in the palms of the hand and the soles of the feet so that the magickian sees with the paws of the dragon in projection.

VERY informative post. Some concepts and ideas I have never heard before, thank you for sharing. I've heard the dim light theory before and have also found in experience that something strange happens to me, something beyond physical when I shut all the lights off and light a few candles and meditate,focusing in on the flame but with my eyes closed and crossing them in a manner of which the vision in both eyes if open would converge to create one. What I still ponder is actually how important change in diet and the chemistry of the brain is in this process.

The Pineal Gland is NOT the third eye! The Pineal Gland may, or may not play a role in development and function, but the third eye is a label for a dynamic of awareness resulting from non-cognitive neural activity. To say that "Some consensus" agrees that the Pineal Gland is the third eye is untrue and is a false path to understanding. I think that thinking about the third eye is not always the best way to develop it. It will only come from meditation. Turn off your brain and meditate. If you could make it happen, millions more would have it. If you could control it, millions would be misusing it.

We can say the third eye is whatever you think it is, because it's subjective nonetheless.
Arguing your point more often will not make it the truth.

I have seen pictures of ancient egyptian carvings depicting a small, pinecone-like object, raised above the head of people bowing beneath it.
If that doesn't represent the pineal gland, nothing does.
It doesn't help your argument considering how much the eye of Amun-Ra looks like the actual organ that exists in our brains.

We've all said time and time over that meditation is the primary way to "open your third eye," so in that line no one was disagreeing with you, yet you felt it necessary to state in almost every of your posts.

You also claim that the idea is the pineal gland being the third eye is false knowledge that cannot be backed up, yet the only information I haven't been able to verify in some way or another, was yours, Manonthepath.

Just because the culture doesn't call them their chakra, doesn't mean it isn't the same energy system.

Except, I have developed my psychic senses and made quite a bit of spiritual progress without using any sort of chakra model at all. I've seen Mystics who raised their Kundalini to the Ajna Chakra (fully and permanently opening it) and attained Samadhi while not being able to see a single spiritual thing, and I've seen Clairvoyants who could almost be omniscient at times and yet had never experienced mystic states of consciousness like Samadhi or had ever awakened any chakras.

Questioning overlap does not seem to me to be absolute idiocy, it's just a matter of questioning connections and wondering where overlap really exists -- or if it does at all. Because dogmatically clinging to a model doesn't mean that it is absolutely true, it just means dogmatically clinging to a model.

But this assumes that one single energy system is universally, objectively, absolutely true. It assumes that the energy system does not respond to subjective, personal construction and it assumes that the energy system is immune to Analytical Overlay. Such assumptions are usually impractical, if you want to discover the finer nuances that exist only in cultural context.

I have yet to find anything even loosely resembling a chakra system in Teutonic tradition. I've looked.

I've looked into chakra systems but have never studied them in depth. I prefer the phrase 'energy centers'. I've also seen some incredibly talented Talents who never had anything to do with chakras.

Different cultures have quite a bit of overlap of techniques. They're just called by different vocabulary words.

How many ancient cultures knew of the pineal glad (by whatever name they called the actual physical organ)? I don't know the answer to that? Do you? Being able to sense an energy center and trace the lines as they travel through the body is a very different thing than biology. So, they're located in approximately the same place. That does not PROVE that they are connected.

Yes, it most likely corresponds to the pineal glad BUT if you want to state that as FACT then show me the proof.

Which cultures are you talking about? How many of them have chakra awakening methods? Do you really believe that you actually know the SECRET practices of the peoples of ancient cultures? The Mysteries? Really?
