For a month or so, I took to the life of a mendicant in Himalayas. I was chided, chastized and assaulted by some persons for begging like a sadhu ( spiritual seeker ) though being a healthy looking young boy capable of eking out his own living. I was forced to subsist on the leaves of trees. I could be spotted at places where free feasts were given by the rich.

One should not expect to become a saint overnight but I did derive some benefit by this particular foolhardiness of adventure or misadventure as you may deem fit to call it. By the way, I would not advise it to any one else.

I am a westerner. Through and through. I admit I may share some beliefs about personal conduct, respect for superiors and in a very limited way of honor and pantheism or panspiritism with the Japanese, but otherwise, I am a westerner who likes to do things westerner. Including spirituality. I think, I conceptualise and analyse, I wish to control myself and my fate, I have far greater interest in God than in Nature, etc.
That also means when someone saies the East is better than the West period, I usualy disagree, though I should not be judgemental of anything.
