I've been studying the tarot for about 8 months. I'm very confused on something. I will ask a question, and will do either a 3 or 5 card spread on myself. On this particular question, the cards show very positive changes around me and/or upcoming. So why dont I "see" these changes taking place? This has been a real bummer for me because I am very impatient and unless I see something immediate, the reading bums me out in a big way. I am trying to be more patient, hence the Temperance card who seems to show up quite a bit. But I start to loose faith when i cant or dont see actual changes. My life right now is in a vacume and ANYTHING positive for me would work wonders for my demeanor. Any suggestions?

I do a tarot read on myself once a month, and so far it has been accurate down to a pinpoint. You must also realize that some of the cards are not necessarily about you, but they may be about influences in your future. Like, if the Hanged Man appears and speaks of "Martyrlike sacrifice", this may not be you doing the sacrificing. It may be a friend sacrificing doing something to lead to the present situation. Also, different layouts mean different things, such as the Past, Present, and Future. You have to be very careful with those things.

Just a something to ask,
because I've done this to myself, with the cards (and just with life)...
While waiting to see the signs of the predicted change, have you placed yourself in too much of a passive state? I.e., has the act of knowing the prediction made you less active, and therefore kept you from doing things you might have done to influence this positive outcome?
Just something to look at...

After 8 months I cant see that you will be able to have enough objectivity to do predictive readings for yourself in the first place. Not a criticism, this just takes a lot of practise. Use them as meditative tools as much as possible for now. Or read for others as longa s they know you are practising. Reading for the self is very tricky, even for the very experienced.
What sorts of things are you asking?

Also do you keep a tarot journal ? When your as new at tarot as you are it is a good way to learn spreads and keep track of your readings. You may be surpised also down the road at how you develope your skills to.
becuase you are not taking the steps to make the changes that your reading refers to. Tarot readings are not written in stone, things can change, and if you are not going to take the steps needed for these postive changes to occur then you will not see them.So why dont I "see" these changes taking place?

My readings are very much an extension of my personality. My cards are brutally direct. I have had a girl ask the same question three times and my cards showed her the same card. When she finally asked a different question and the same card showed itself I asked her to tell me what she was really thinking. She admitted to me she was still thinking about the original question. Though on me, my cards are vague and offer no help. They seem to tell me the very things I do not want to know but yet know are true.

When I first started out with tarot cards there would be occations in which the cards were acurate but I misinterpreted them. Also I learned over the 10+ years of working with tarot that I have to ask questions and give a time frame such as what will happen with in the next 6 months on my current path. Otherwise you can ask a question and it doesn't happen for a few years. Also there are infinate possibilities that can happen for everything we do and don't do. The cards are going to give you the most likely possibility based on your current path. Your current path can change so fast and you don't even realise it. These are just a few reasons to why you don't see results.

I have just recently had an experience where I read a Tarot because I was concerned about someone and found out that they were not as badly off in some ways as I had thought; I thought I had misread the cards or that my deck was no longer working until I reflected on the actual evidence and not what the person was telling me.

Maybe it's in the not so close future or perhaps like someone mentioned, your not taking any action. Tarot cards are not actually for fortune telling, more like something a friend would give you for advice to effect your future. I know it's a bummer but most divination tools are advice givers, not fortune tellers. Thats when your own intuition and abilities kick in. I've been doing the tarot since I was in 6th or 7th grade. Nowadays I can't rely on the tarot much because I had a 2 year hiatus on the occult so I forgot nearly everything. When I came back to tarot reading my readings were so confusing they seem very inaccurate. I stoped using the book and started going for my intuition. I'd look at a card and it would give me an impression and I interpret them that way now which works much better. Sometimes the best tool is yourself. When I made my own interpretions I found out that the book usually told me something else which I found odd. Maybe you should toss the book if you are using it and try using your sixth sense. You might get a different reading then when you were using the book.

Or maybe you're just not down with your cards. Maybe you don't connect with them. Maybe you're not concentrating, etc. etc.
I've been reading for a few years now - not intensively - quite occasionally actually. I've always installed a check in my spreads - one of the first parts of the reading: always about the past, or my known future. If that makes sense - if i know right off what the cards are talking about, then I know the rest of the spread is accurate - that I did place everything properly - that I did interpret everything's position correctly.
I don't feel confident enough to just lay the future and say that's the future. I've messed up enough to know it's easy to mess up - so easy to make an error here or there that ruins the whole spread/experience. Maybe toss in that safe gaurd and see. Meditate a little longer on the problem. Maybe you just need to clean your cards out.
But if I were to give you the benefit of the doubt and say you're interpretting properly, and that your spreads or what they should be, it's very easy to go too fluid and just let thigns happen, instead of doing what you would have done had you not known the spread's outcome.
Everything everyon else said, basicly.

Although Tarot does give advice to your subconsious and conscious mind, it is also a good way to predict events to come. I also took a haitus from the accoult for about 5 years, but when I came back my readings were more accurate and powerful then ever before.

LavenderFields it may simply be that you havnt built up your psychic abilities enough yet. Thats why the cards are not giving you accuracy.
You can also do an incense smudge on the cards if you feel the vibes around the cards are not good.
