house of scorpio seems to be two faced ?
Original post: [Gnostic]a+
i am a scorpio myself, november 4th ... and, ive been very interested in astrology since i can remember, but, its been one of those things ive meant to intensely study, but only have scratched the surface... ive read alot of bits and pieces about the sign of scorpio ... and it seems unlike many of the other signs, scorpio has two aspects, the traitor that of the scorpion, and the spiritual guru of the pheonix ( or eagle )that soars above the physical dimension. i guess the point of this thread is, why does scorpio seem to have this unique dual aspect to it ? when i self observe myself, i can seem to seem both in me, both aspects that of the scorpion and the pheonix. i can be the most honest, loyal, serious friend you have, but then if you cross me... or if i just simply dont like you, i can be the most vindictive, cruel, and mean guy you know to you. i guess the general question of this thread is, can you possess both esoteric traits of this sign at once being a scorpio, or is it one or the other ? ... and, i guess just any other relevant info regarding the sign of scorpio, since it all interests me ...
i hear alot of people say that scorpio is the most unique sign of the zodiac, and most powerful... is this true ?

Welcome sister/brother Scorpio. I'm November 8th. I have to say there is great duality in the Scorpio sign. I have to agree it is truly a unique sign. The phoenix is renewal, rebirth and constant change. Why are Scorpios the way we are? I'd have to say because the sign represents so many things. It's the House of secrets. It's the House of majik. It's the House of the occult. It's the House of sex. Yet so many more things. We rarely show anyone all the faces we have. My husband still feels that I'm a mystery even after over 9 years together and a little more than 2 years being married. We are the Sphynx with many riddles. We are are enigmas sometimes even to ourselves.

I'm not scorpio myself, but scorpio does fall across a few of my planets, and I do feel the influence - recently especially so, with the lunar eclipse going through scorpio.
Scorpio is the secretive and occult sign. Because of the occult conotation, I think there is a tendency for this sign to have two parts to their personality, one of which is more hidden and probably has darker (and I don't mean anything bad by that) tendencies than the other.
The duality does appear in other signs, and is generally brought foward or reduced by other planetary influences. In scorpio's, it's even more highlighted though, as I've always seen scorpios to be very intense people who feel stuff more than most others (probably not making sense, but hey...).

the regent of mars, samael, seems to be a god of war, could it be, with this duality within scorpio, that we have an inner war going on here ?

On a general level, another thing to take into consideration is that all signs have their shadow and in the case of Scorpio the shadow is Taurus. To understand some of the negative aspects of what Scorpios can fall into it helps to understand Taurus as well. This is why you will a lot of times find Scorpios who don't seem to fit the description of the sensual, secretive, deep, introspective type but have fallen into the worst aspects of the practical, stubborn and materialistic mode of Taurus and may explain why a lot of us Scorpios are so full of BS.

I'm not biased at all when I say that Scorpios are the best sign. It's just a simple fact:) But let me paraphrase Valentinius the best I can when he said "When one possesses Gnosis, the stars no longer speak true."

Nalyd does bring up an interesting and often overlooked point. depending upon when your bday falls, whether, (as in my case) it is the early part of that sign's house (i'm oct 27) or the later part (mid nov), you will take on different aspects of that sign. of course, it's not alll just about your sun sign, there's more to a full chart than this.
the dual aspect of scorpio is stronger than other signs, as scorpio is the house of sex. death and rebirth, the unending cycle. the occult aspects as well. are scorpios the most powerful sign? no, not really. your entire chart might just show you that scorpio is only your sun sign, and most of your influence may come elsewhere.
we just get all the spotlight. it's the lure.

(Just a forewarning if you're really sensitive about anything to do with Hitler then don't even read this... not that I am sayng anything racist or whatever, I'm just using Hitler as an example of Pluto's influence when it goes bad - so don't flame me)
I don't know if this has been said or not, but in terms of "duality" Scorpio itself is not a "dual sign", but there are a few things to consider (I enjoy the symbolism because I have mercury and uranus in scorpio but I digress)... Traditionally speaking, Scorpio is ruled by mars, but Mars does not fully serve the regenerative powers of the scorpionic nature. When Pluto was discovered in 1930, Hitler came to power, though he himself not a Scorpio, he epitomised the Plutonic negativities. He was very apt at speaking and could easily rouse a group of people to his way of thinking, that is the persuasive nature of Pluto and Scorpio. Though Hitler himself also epitomised the very powerful negative traits of Pluto. He wanted to "cleanse" the world of the Jewish populace and anyone else who did not meet the Aryian ideal. The need to cleanse one's own environment of things that no longer serve is very Plutonic. Hitler just tried to do it on a massive scale.
When Pluto moved into Scorpio (it's domicile), we, as a populace became aware of the HIV virus, and so people realised that there were worse things out there than just gohorrehea and you couldn't just go to the doctor and get a tablet, and so we became painfully of safe-sex practices.
The scorponic nature is intense and deep, when I think of scorpio I think of deep pools that seem to have endless depth. Astrologically speaking, Uranus is in exaltation in Scorpio and this is possibly a reason why a lot of scorpionic types have an interest in the occult.

I'm one of the Scorpio in Pluto kids, so I do feel it influence - thankfully, it seems positive. I agree with ava calahan when they said about the intensity- that I can see in how scorpio affects my charts, and in the scorpio's I've known. All good people, even if a little insane.
Someone mentioned the 'shadow' side to the sun sign? I'm pretty ignorant about astrology still, so I've no idea what a shadow of a sun sign is. Any links or info you can share?
Yes, yes...but Libras WILL take over the world (once we decide how).I'm not biased at all when I say that Scorpios are the best sign.

I'm trying to think of the other places I go for asking questions about western astrology. 99% of the time it's astrodeinst. Maybe Jymie and Vicky from Panpipes might know. They have a yahoo group and I'm sure they'd appreciate the questions you'd have.

The shadow sign is the sign that the Earth is in. It is the polar opposite of each sign, so if the Sun is in Scorpio then the Earth is in Taurus making Taurus the shadow of Scorpio. Nothing really too complex.

I am Scorpio too ... 10th November ...
I agree with everything which is said about the most powerful sign in the Zodiac ... the house of sex, death and the occult.
I determine we are born under the sign which contains all the other zodiac signs as I can recognise the characteristics of all the other signs in my own actions

I just want to start by saying there is alot of good comments on this thread. My basic training with a prominent astrologer was with the western tropical system, but have continued to study other systems, of which the Vedic is most intriguing to me.
There are alot of Scorpios claiming superiority, and a Leo to boot. well, here's the story with that: it's all about the fixed signs. Tauri, Leos, Scorpios, and Aquarians (which is my sun sign) all believe they are superior. Perhaps we all are. A Capricorn might take issue with that, though.
I've become a temporary honorary Scorpio with Pluto conjunct my ascendant. Transformation, change, death, intensity, and crisis has become a daily occurance. Geez, no wonder you Scorpios are the way you are! (I am aware that Scorpio does not = Pluto, but they are basically equivalent.)
But I think it is important to look past the sun sign and look at the rising and moon signs as well. [Any Vedic astrologer will attest to the importance of the moon and the nakshatra it occupies.] In fact, I've come up with a clever expression of all the 3: sun, moon, and rising signs. (I'm not sure if I created this, of course as an Aquarian I believe I did, but i've never come across it anywhere before.)
For instance, I am an Aquarian sun, Sagittarius rising, and Capricorn moon. I have distilled that down to Sagaquaricorn. It doesn't have to be in that order: rising-sun-moon. Be creative!
The fixed signs are the most intense, and thier feelings of superiority relate to the element of the sign: Taurus feels their value system is superior, Leo intrinsically superior, Scorpios emotionally superior and Aquarians intellectually superior. And since the sun (at one level) represents the ego, you can see why these signs can clash so much.
One thing I've learned from astrology (and life with those damn Leos) is that opposites attract, full of energy, but sameness begets longevity.
Would all you Scorpios like to share your rising and moon signs, or are you too secretive? (Just wry Aquarian humor.)

Oops, forgot to address another point which was raised in this thread; that of duality. There are differing opinions of this, but strictly speaking Scorpio is not a dual sign. Gemini (the twins, obviously), Sagittarius (half human, half beast), and Pisces (two fish) are the true dual signs. That said, I would actually consider Scorpio a triplicity, with scorpion the lowest (it would rather sting itself to death than allow something else to kill it--it's mythology, I don't actually know if that is true with physical scorpions). the second form is the serpent, which is wise and sheds its skin to be born anew, yet is still ruled by primal instincts, and the highest being the eagle/phoenix. My teacher believed that Scorpio has the widest range of manifestation in the zodiac, from the lowest form of bloodlust or revenge, to the most enlightened spiritual teacher. I tend to think she is right.
But I think it is important not to overidentify with our sun signs, which we all do to some extent.

I think astrology only represents general tendencies.
My GF has really been quite upfront with me and been very open with me. So I donâ??t see the secretive side.
She is very sexual and I like that bout her. I have more sexual energy then anyone I have meet and practice reaching higher levels in anything I decide to do.
I donâ??t really believe anyone can hide much from anyone who is a generally aware person that is aware of how ego etc can blind a person and is cool with being a realist and seeing things the way they are then itâ??s easy to pick up on cues body language and understand their drives motives and how they work quite easily just by noticing and not having your head up your ass, or by being stuck in yourself. Everyone has a vibe that projects out that people pick up on and you have intuition that tells you things. Itâ??s really quite easy to see through people and I donâ??t see people as very mysterious including Scorpio. People are either fun and contribute and fit in with me or they donâ??t.
I do however notice general Scorpio traits I love and admire above allot of other signs that I have to come to value very muchâ?¦. Itâ?? may be one of my personal favorite signs, but really all the signs have there place , so I donâ??t truly believe any are better then another.
I think astrology only represents general tendencies.
