blessings all.

i have a tendency to reject any sort of formal system for my magickal workings, so when i use tools, they tend to be whatever is conveniently at hand.

for instance, my pendulum (the only dedicated magickal tool i have created and not destroyed after using).
it is a solidified drop of 95/5 solder (from work) suspended from an old aluminium "pocket cross" (from a mission a few years ago) by a few strands of my hair braided together.
it is so very ghetto, i know, but it responds like no other tool i've used. (which is why i've kept it beyond its original use.)
if i'm feeling really ritualistic (ya, right), i might chalk out a chart on the floor with some replies other than YES, NO, PROBABLY, UNLIKELY.

my point and question:

does anyone else just use what is at hand? is there any valid reason not to do so? (other than tradition, that is).
if so, tell me about it (either case).

I use whatever's at hand myself. The only 'tools' I've bought is chalk. Aside from that I've used plastic easter eggs, random soda bottles (make great meme jars), a friends car, and a really nifty 3/4" x 7' PVC pole I found.

If I ever get around to having 'traditional' tools I'll probably make them myself out of what's on hand.

I use a divining rod and pendulum for finding things. My husband has a natural ability to be able to find things. It's very rare that he can't find something because it's truly disappeared. My aunt would pray to one of the saints to find things and it worked for her.

I used a sigil to find my lost wallet not but last night lol. Sigils are my method, though I used Saint Anthony as a Catholic child (Oh...how things do change) and it worked like...well...a charm lol.

divining rods are one of those temporary tools i use all the time...mostly at work. they are great for finding underground pipes and avoiding unnecessary digging. i just use a bent welding rod. all the old plumbers do the same.
