Dancing Trance

Hello all!
I just wanted some feedback from those more experienced than me in this matter on a "ritual" I'm planning to do. I think this ritual has been done a lot of times, in different guises, so there should be some experience available.
The ritual is a basic induced trance through rhythm and nature.
I plan to go out in the forest, find a place I feel is filled with positive power. I will light a fire, try to purify the place, and start dancing.
I will just simply dance around the fire, to the rhythm produced by improvised drumming and chanting, until something happens.
So my questions:
- What can I expect will happen? Anything?
- Do I risk any attacks from malicious spirits, or can I trust that my ancestor spirits will protect me?
- If there are attacks, what should I do to protect myself? Is it enough to have no fear, as suggested in earlier answers to my question about the cabin experience?
- Is this something that you would recommend to a newbee, or would you suggest I do it more slowly in the beginning?

I wouldn't think you would get into trance by dancing alone if you are not experienced, only if you are particularly gifted.
Trance dance is usually a group ritual in which support is given to the dancer for when he goes into trance and where protection is offered by the circle in which he dances. Also sometimes you may fly and your body can fall to the ground and this is supported again by the people around you.
What you can expect by doing this alone is a feeling of tuning and possibly some strong energetical releases and insights. You may let go of pain and transcend some aspects of yourself as you let the energy flow through your body with the natural dance.
Peace

Sud Ram is correct. You might want to do a smudge (or burn some other incense to clear the area first) before you do something like that. But in many instances going to trance by yourself offers some risks and no one can help you if something goes wrong. Its best to get some friends or a close friend to be there with you.
I'm not sure whats available in Norway. I presume theres pine trees or cedar trees availiable? You can collect some pine needles and let them dry. You could either throw the dried needles into a bon fire to smoke the area or go to a relgious suply store/church supplies for some charcoal to burn the pine needles. (Keep in mind when you pick the needles offer a prayer of thanks to the tree.)
If you are still new to shamanism I would suggest you work alittle on psychic development skills like energy manipulation first. Theres books on things like pranic healing or reiki or psychic healing etc. I think theres some websites that gives you instructions. Once you have some control of your energies you can do all kinds of things and ceremonies etc.

Quite often, when I'm dancing "normally", e.g. at a club, I feel like I'm inches from going into a trance. So it feels like I will go into trance I only go somewhere completely remote from people, and as near Nature as possible. If I add rhythm, I think I will succeed.

Thanks for the advice. Pine trees are very common in Norway, but cedar is not. I think I will spend winter preparing for my dance, and do the actual ritual come spring or summer.

kristian, I believe that what you are approaching when you are dancing in clubs are the energetical releases and tunings that I wrote about before. Trance is a very deep state.
I'm not saying that you're wrong, just that in my experience, there are quite a few levels to go through in dance before being able to enter trance.
If you do go ahead with this solitary adventure, be sure to dance on a nice and soft ground. You might hurt yourself badly if you fall.
