To be an expert at magic is to be an expert at controlling your mind. Throughout our careers, we put ourselves through states of mind not normally possible for the conscious human. We walk through our dreams with full awareness, view visions otherwise available only in the mindless stupor of a drug, and fight off our inner demons and delusions all to live a life that a 'normal' person would consider insane.
If we wanted to, we could go off the deep end and never come back. What if you could retreat into your mind completely, become catatonic. Your body gets shipped off to a ward where you get fed and analyzed while you live oblivious of reality's boredom, happily doing whatever you want in your personal mindscape.
Look at what you really want. Would you forsake what we call the real world to become the god of your own?
I don't care as much about reality for its own sake as most people. There are times when I might, but this annoying little human emotion called "love" comes along and keeps me here. Cute, no? ^^
