But the idea that Jesus' miracles were done based on herb oils strips away from the concept of Jesus doing miracles to begin with. The power was in the metaphysical nature of Jesus. Otherwise your conclusion makes Jesus to be nothing more than an herbal healer.
i don't doubt "the metaphysical healing" of self and others, i'm just wondering if a properly prepared "annointment oil" could be used as an aid.

oh, and thanks for the book recommendation, looks like an interesting read and i'll probably get it sometime though my stack of yet to be read books looks quite frightening. :)

My guess is that some sort of psychoactive preparation (hash oil?) could be made and absorbed through the skin.
Try Half.com, I got it as a paperback for about 10 bucks.

I see from going to half.com that there are three publishing. 1978, 1981 and 1998. Which one did you get? They have a hardcover 1978 edition for $35 but all others are out of stock.

I agree with that. The properties of the oil can be magnified by a Metaphysical practitioner.

I appreciate that. I just put the ISBN into Amazon and the $54.99 must have been an earlier edition. Sounds like the first edition might have been more of a published research paper. The book is now on my wish list.:-D

I am currently reading my way through the New Encyclopedia of the Occult by John M. Greer. Great resource.
It has been my observation from my readings that the normal course of events is that once a great prophet dies, over time he becomes a god to future generations and his deeds are magnified. But that does not negate the fact the great prophet once lived and did miraculous deeds.
Or not. I recommend reading The Pagan Christ by Tom Harpur. He explains where the original ideas for the Jesus mythos were lifted from. The primary source was the mythos of Horus the Redeemer, who was mentioned in the 4000 year old text that's popularly known as the Egyptian Book of the Dead.

The Dying God is a well established meme...if it hadn't been Jesus it might have been Mithra.

People naturally disregard the miraculous and try to insert other possible conclusions to my utter amusement.

Jesus did not exist....so he could not heal people......but, since people claimed he healed them, they were probably drugged.....but, he still is just a legend and so nothing written about him actually happened.....but since if he did exist he probably used drugs, they must be good.

My favorite is when people deny that Christ existed, but then use him as a comparison such as:

Jesus drank wine with his disciples at the last supper and said to do it in remembrance of him, so being an alcoholic is holy.

Aside from that, this topic is very interesting.

Jesus is like magic either you believe of you don't. Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Essence gospels, Paul's letters, the letters of the other saints all write of the same man. Now either they made him up or someone made them up too.

If cannabis is the 'lesser known' drug for those areas, then who is to say Jesus wasn't on every other coco bean or poppy flower on the continent? History's records seem to forget the information that doesn't enforce the validity of scriptures or other misc. informational sources. Particularly if a worldwide fundamentalist religious belief of being "righteous" was at stake. How many people think corruption and a collective amount of people hysterically mad about their religion being "righteous" in earlier days, could have concealed something like this? It may have been hysteria, may have been fact- but didn't most cannabis plants originate from the Niger and Nepal area's, opium came from Afghanistan and Cocaine came from Iraq? I'm not sure about the latter (cocaine), but the other 2 would be accurate as climatical changes do not appear to have occured within the area in at least, the last 2,000 years or so.

Coca is indiginous to South America. Jesus could certainly have had access to opiates and psychedelic mushrooms.

Maybe there was some generic son of God story or prophecy in the middle east that was attributed to several men, Jesus being one of them. He could have been some sort of herbal healer or magician that was promoted to the son of god status after his death, along with the rest of the story that could go with that. Ancient history is filled with troubled times, and people were in dire need of saviors to come fix their lives. It's not far fetched to believe that there are logical and real explanations for the things that happen in all of the holy books, personally, I think it's possible for them all to be right if you look at it in a certain light.

Jesus very well could have been a real historical figure, he could very well have walked around healing the sick and doing things people would later call miracles, the bible wasn't even written until after he died, and what better way to remember a man than as a god?

I'm not trying to say this is how it happened, it's just some food for thought.

From: http://www.guardian.co.uk/international ... 73,00.html

Jesus w as almost certainly a cannabis user and an early proponent of the medicinal properties of the drug, according to a study of scriptural texts published this month. The study suggests that Jesus and his disciples used the drug to carry out miraculous healings.

If Jesus used cannabis, it would be impossible to have EVER fed over 100 people with 2 fish and a loaf of bread...Anyone who has used cannabis knows this.

lol

But then again, it is an extension of a religion founded by a guy who met God through a burning shrubbery...

If he was the stoner messiah, feeding all those people with munchies and a small budget really would be an appropriate miracle. That and free wine at the wedding

93,

Seeing as how I don't believe a Jesus ever existed in a historical sense, this is quite silly, but it shows that whomever wrote those Gospels was surely into it all!

Perhaps they got the numbers backwards and the real miracle was that Jesus ate over 100-people's worth of fish and bread while blazed.

Another interesting, yet somewhat irrelevant nugget if information...

The word "assassin" comes from a bunch of stoned Arabs...here before you, unscrupulously copy/pasted from that veritable fountain of knowledge and wisdom Wikipedia..

The term 'Assassin' may derive from Hashshashin, a militant Ismaili Muslim sect, active in the Middle East from the eighth to the fourteenth centuries. This mystic secret society killed members of the Abbasid and Seljuq élite for political and religious reasons.[3]

It is speculated that the assassins were under the influence of hashish and opium during their killings or during their indoctrination; assassin may derive either from hasishin, the influence of the drugs, or hassansin, after their leader, Hassan-i-Sabah. Hashishinnya was an offensive term used by its Muslim and Mongolian detractors to characterize the cult.[citation needed]

The earliest known literary use of the "assassination" is in The Tragedy of Macbeth by William Shakespeare (1605).[4][5]

The thick plottens.....

I sometimes think Jesus might of mixed cannabis with maybe something else like datura. I dont think cannabis by itself would be enough to trip people out that much. But when you smoke just alittle of it after drinking datura tea, it makes you feel most.. healed/euphoric(and not that hungry). Hard to describe but its the most happy I've ever felt I think.. best drug ever, and I had the best christmas that year too.

So I think if you could mix up some flying oil with just those two, you'd be pretty happy, and would probably make others happy soon after you anointed them.
