I have been recently trying to find some "otherworldly" type of music which I can use when I preform a Ritual, but I cannot seem to find any! Perhaps you fine folk can help me out? I am looking for, as I have mentioned, "otherworldly" music, or perhaps list what kind of music you use in your rituals? I do not want any music from a "band" of sorts that are marketed as songs (eg no metal music, rock ad roll, etc) just deep background music of a dark sense.

Try some good old classical, maybe?. Anything with strings and/or piano.
Cellos have a good, dark and even sometimes overwhelming feeling to them. Look for some composers.
Have you ever tried something natural? Like sounds of the whales, rainforest ambiance, etc?

I personally like working with drone music quite a lot. Drone tends to set a mood and then sort of, erm, drone onwards, or rather levitate in the same mood till it finishes.
If you can find any organum, they did some interesting stuff, the moods range from blissed out to mysterious to abjectly hate filled. Not to everyones taste though for sure!
What sort of rituals are you looking to incorporate music into? I might be able to recomend a few specific albums by people with a bit more info, I may be able to find you some download links as well.
Feed me info

Considering this is in the satanism section, you might want to investigate some 20th century composers like ligeti, stockhausen, penderecki, etc.
If you wanted something newer, theres some really good stuff on the underground Japanese circuit, like toho sara, nijumu and (some of) keiji haino. Theres so much out there! Toho sara did an album called 'eastern most' (I think) its still available on a japanese import and I always thought it sounded like a soundtrack to a Hieronymous Bosch painting........ You could even investigate some merzbow.

Well the rituals I will be preforming tend to be either one of 4. Compassion, Destruction, Lust and Communication (many of you will recognize these as the three from the CoS and the fourth from the ToS). I do not want an upbeat type of music at all, and I don't like the idea of piano but I am open to organ. If it is involving vocals, preferably chanting in another language (for instance, I am a big fan of O Fortuna, that type of music.)

Are you saying that my next musical project should perhaps be a ceremonial ambiance album? Is that what you're saying?
I really can't think of anyone off the top of my head, sorry. Maybe one of the many Therion albums? If you decide to check them out, I suggest the "Secret of the Runes" album.

You could investigate some tibetan ritual music perhaps? Some of it has a very sombre tone, some of it is played on human thigh bones and has large gfroups of people chanting in tibetan in deep voices. Sets a great tone sometimes. BUT at all costs, avoid the new age stuff, it tends to be tamed down versions of the original vibe.
for destruction, start to wade through merzbows back catalogue, hes done a few hundred albums in the last few decades, so its not an easy catalogue to crack. If you cant find anything that suits you I can always send you a few noise pieces that I have made for this purpose. Pm me perhaps.
Theres also some recordings from the voyager space probe that are from the different planets in the solar system and deep space. These sound quite Lovecraftian and would fit with communication I think. If that interests you I will try and find you some label details or a download site

Mortiis - Fodt til a Herske: two half-hour tracks of minimal, dark, brooding ambient organ/synth. Perfect for ritual atmosphere.

And hails to thee. But unfortunately, I'm no longer in Oregon. I'm in another one of the 'O' states. Planning a move back, though. I just need the funds. Whereabouts in Cascadia are you?

What you need is music that will connect your soul to the spirit of your rituals.
I have called this process Music Ka and have been in the process of writing a book on it. I have composed ritualistic music for several Orders, religions and individuals and I can do the same for you if you desire.
PM me if interested.

I've always been partial to Lustmord's ambient industrial music for rituals because it is abstract with a lot of dark undertones. I also like Popol Vuh's soundtrack to the Herzog "Nosferatu". Soundtracks from movies like "Hellraiser" or "Bram Stoker's Dracula" have also proven quite effective.

Hello Setian,
The music of Arvo Part is extraordinary - you should be able to find his compositions relatively easily in the Classical section of a music store.
The Eorthe Musics of the ONA - "Gaia" and "Atazoth" are excellent soundscapes for Ritual working.
Bestia Centauri of Somnabulant Records composes a lot of antidiluvian [i.e. scapes of a world before human presence] musics and scapes that are alien and excellent played very loudly.
I would also recommend the Yugotthic Choir, particularly if you enjoy Carmina's O Fortuna [As I also do].
You might also try "Laibach" in a search engine - unfor. i don't have any supply details for this one yet - but will post back if I do.
Also of interest, the Black Glyph Society [A subsidiary of the Temple of THEM] has negotiated a deal with ES of ONA to produce 21 copies of his composition the Earth Gate, available soon from Lulu on CD, though pre-order is recommended through
theblackglyphsociety@yahoo.com or the
templeofthem@yahoo.com as owing to the extensive connections of THEM it is anticipated that the 21 copies will not last long. The Earth Gate CD will likely contain the two Eorthe Meditations mentioned above. Price is yet to be decided but the Black Glyph prides itself on keeping its items extremely affordable.
Oh, and if you're looking for more mainstream music but with a definite structured theme you could also try a band called Nox Arcana. They're the epitome of popular goth music but some of their renditions are quite superb, and lend themselves greatly to re-structuring, over-dubbing, distortion, additional sounds and voices, tinkering etc in fruity loops or other music programs.
ISS,

the band dead can dance has a few really good choice ritual musick type tracks..i myself have used acid loops to make my own ritual musick to suit my needs...but i generally lean towards sitar musick sometimes or slower sufi ritual musick ..that generally suits my needs..i think wat you are looking for is a bit hard to really tack down..but ritual musick is simply about creating ambience..if you want something a bit more focused and harmonious with your rituals? i would suggest doing a little bit of your own ...doesnt really take much and you can lay out a perfect track to fit the general need.

One of my favorite songs with a dark atmosphere is
Fear and Wonder by Dimmu Borgir. Quite appropriate for ritual, at least for myself.
Sample it
here.
There is also a band called Nox Arcana that you may want to look into.

If you are interested in creating more of a Left Handed Dark Spirituality vibe for your ritual work I first would recommend myself as composer, but that might become expensive for an individual, otherwise there is a perfect CD released by Michael Ford that attempts to channel the Qliphoth through sound and music, it achieves its goals and I highly recommend the CD.

I often use..
Daemonia Nymphe (ancient Greek)
Nox Arcana (e.g. "Necronomicon")
Goa (the best sound for a chaotic mess "B"

)
Mantras (search on youtube, e.g. "Kali, the dangerous mother")
Dead can dance (oriental breathed on music)

[justify]The CD track that I recorded is being released in a few months. Its called 'Masters of Invocation'. It is dark ambient music suitable for the ritual Chamber; and it is the project of several occultists who are also incredible performers. I made a ritual and performed a chant for this CD. I cant wait until its available, its going to be awesome for ritual work!
Check it out -> Masters of Invocation Cd [with links to the other performers on this CD, produced by Legatus Records]

Other than that, I love Morbid Angel and Acheron in the ritual room, the Classics.
