Now this post is probably going to sound a bit corny but here we go. Have any of you tried to used a magic 8 ball for divination? Basically it is just a 20 sided die in a tube surrounded by ink water, and anything which can give random answers can be used for divination. Now it is unbalanced as I think it have one or two more positive answers than negative. But I think have found it to be useful for a quick yes or no question divination now and again.

*laughs* funnily enough, yeah. Mine has already developed a basic personality (they tend to do that, just like tarot decks), and has a rather wicked sense of humour. Shame it gets in the way of the readings, but I still appreciate it.

I do not use mine allot, but like I said I use it sometimes. The ink in mine are to thick or perhaps the writing on the dice are not clear enough, for the words are sometimes hard to make out. But I think that give the eight ball personality.

My only worry with this would be the mass-production of the Magic 8 Balls. Coming from a possibly poor conditioned overseas factory to your magickal hands seems, to me, like a spiritual void or buffer. Interesting post!

Do you think your average store both Tarot deck, glass scrying ball or pendulum is any less mass produced in over seas factories. One of the reasons why one should cleanse new tools. Though I am often to impatient and try them out first, even if I should not. Patience have never been my strong point.

Oh yes. I have one, and I've used it.
I think it's absolutely remarkable, the answers I get from it, to be perfectly frank. My family agrees. Usually the answers, limited though they are, fit the question so perfectly it's uncanny. True story (I never lie anyway): I once asked it if the bicycle I wanted to buy would be a good choice. It said, "Outlook Good". This, of all the positive answers it could have given, struck me as significant - funny, really- because the bike in question was a DiamondbackOutlook. lol

It's funny to see someone else post on this, as I have before on a different forum.
There is no shame or silliness afoot merely for using a magic 8 ball.
It's just a die suspended in fluid, for all intents and purposes, and it no more nor less useless than any other method.
I don't believe the power of divination is in the tools, nor in spirits, but in synchronicity. Basically, anything will do, from pebbles to scrabble pieces really. It's like licking your finger and sticking it up in the air to see which way the wind is blowing; the wind doesn't care what you use - wet finger, windsock, weather vane, or satellite w/ doplar radar.
(That said, I use runes and tarot too, and other methods)

I agree, the power of divination is in the practitioner, not in the tool. And while the 8 ball can not give very detailed answers and it is slightly unbalanced as it have more positive replies on the dice than negative, it is still a rather nice, simple dice divination method. I think that it is kind of the same as dice divination, only that the die is here suspended in liquid inside a ball instead of being rolled on the table.

Wow, I haven't used a magic 8 ball since I was a kid. Good times :)

As to the validity of it, it's been said (and I believe) you could make a divination based on throwing pieces of crumpled paper down the stairs, so long as you determined what the result would mean before you threw the paper.

I suppose the only thing I would say would be needed would be to roll it around enough times for your subconscious to learn the facings of the die. Once that's done, the subconscious will guide your hands as you shake the ball and should be able to give as accurate a reading as the 8 ball is capable of giving.

I'm gonna have to pick one up now.

do you think that skrying with a virtual ball wich gives you random answers could be effective? I think so because I downloaded a 3d skrying ball and I'm using it to find objects I lost long time ago, and for now I found most of them. if my doubts are real it could be perfect because it couldn't develop personality. after each answer you have to close the program so every magical influence on it is nullified after the goal is reached. and it doesn't need clensing because it's on an object you own, your pc, so it's probably already clensed. what do you think?
