I am new here but have studied Enochian on and off for 30 years which is my main interest. I am not a magician and but am fascinated be the evocations of John Dee and Edward Kelly. I have read 2 recently published books regarding Enochian magic whch were highly informative and interesting. However I am somewhat confused as to what role banishing rituals have in Enochian magic. John Dee and Edward Kelly did not perform any rituals other than praying to the creator for protection and it seemed to work for them.
From what I have seen and read about the LBRP it seems this is the heart and soul of magic with a you better do it or else mentality. I just find this to be a silly approach especially regarding Enochian because obviously this is a Golden Dawn invention and was not even around 500 years ago. I am sure there is a time and place to do banishing rituals but just feel that there has to be a better approach to this than what the Golden Dawn/Crowley ( which looks silly) have provided.

What am I missing here

you're missing the main point.
Is all about your beliefs. If you believe there are other entities that might endanger your spell casting, then you do the LBRP. Otherwise, if you are comfortable without it, there's no point in doing it.
This is the same with all aspects of your life. If you believe in something, then you have to firstly calm your mind around that belief, and then proceed with your goal.
But once the belief is cleared, then your mind is already calm in regard with that belief, and it no longer sabotages your thoughts / actions.
So one should rather do a ACUB (Acknowledge and Clear Unconscious Beliefs) to be good to deal with any aspect of his/her life.
