Hi guys, i am kind of new to ceremonial and i would really appreciate your help

I heard the tool used in the LBRP can either be a dagger, athame, wand or your finger, whichever resonates with you... however I am wondering whether the tool used can really make a difference?

and if i am planning to use my finger, should the index finger be pointed up while all the other fingers are closed?
and the dagger does it have to be double edged , or can it be something like a regular kitchen knife?

Can you please explain to me the role of the altar , and whether it should be used during the LBRP?

I know these are a lot of questions but bare with me please... thank you.

You can use any of those implements. The purpose of using implements in rituals is for the symbology really. Sometimes you have to as I put it, ghetto fy it, and make do with what you got. You got a finger, so use it. Yes point it upwards and keep the other fingers closed, that is correct.

The Altar really is not essential in the LBRP ritual. However it can be used to accentuate it, by having candles lit and a place to rest your knife or athame, also if you place your altar in the east, it guides you to directly where you need to start, facing it. Atmosphere is very beneficial to rituals, while you can practice them virtually anywhere, anytime, as long as you have a great imagination, having an enviroment that puts you in the "mood" ;) does certainly do wonders to assist you in achieving more out of it.

It really doesn't matter what you use. The original instructions varied from temple to temple in the Golden Dawn, but they generally called for either a dagger or fingers.

If you decide to use a dagger, any knife will do, but it will have more impact if you have a special one for just that purpose. It doesn't have to be overly elaborate, but so long as you don't start buttering a sandwhich with it afterwards ;)

The altar is not used in the LRP, unless you're in a full temple setup, in which case you'll circle around the altar and return to the West, facing East, to do your invocations of the Archangels, etc.

Each one of us has a different way to perform a ritual like this...there's no rule (that i know off ) that prohibits the use of an altar !!!!!! We seek our way to the path day by day !!!!!And we comprehend key meanings differently.
