hello
I just registered with this forum. A few words about myself. I was, am and shall be forever fascinated about magic. I am eager to learn about it and I would like to practice it. I am confronting a paradox. Thou` the internet is filled with occult books and information, my question stands, which is true or veritable on the matter. I also am afraid I don't have what it takes, or is there a special thing needed for someone to practice magic, are you born with it, it`s inherited or it can be developed. I need a place to call "Mile 0". I need a start. I need to know how to find out which magic philosophy suites me better. Thankfully I'll wait for some kind of response.

Sometimes it takes years to develop discernible skill, but everyone has it and everyone can train. The only limit is your imagination and your doubts.

Being an
very advanced magus myself I would have to say...
Robert Anton Wilson wrote:As a multiculturalist, I play no favorites. In one sense, we have evolved 72 years beyond the Christ cult, and in another sense we have evolved 90 years. As Sri Syadasti said, "All systems are true in some sense, false in some sense, meaningless in some sense, true and false in some sense, true and meaningless in some sense, false and meaningless in some sense, and true and false and meaningless in some sense." A secret Illuminati teaching holds that if you repeat that 666 777 times, you will achieve Total Illumintaion, in some sense.
Do you know who Patanjali is? "Light on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali" is a good start to magick.

In the end, what you practice first or ever should be what you feel most drawn to. The very first post in this thread, page 88 I think, has some pointers for learning about occultism in general, and the “Resources for Beginners” thread knifed at the top of the list has a few interesting links. The list of chaos magick types, as well as the definition of chaos are a useful start. They’ll give you a by no means finished list of the general types of magick as many people see them.
Some people just pick up the Necronomicon and dive right in. When it comes to magick, it’s more about the intent and will than exacting ritual and proper etiquette. If you like eastern shamanism and the I Ching, then Magick, Shamanism, and the Tao is a pretty good read. For classic shamanism, The Strong Eye of Shamanism reveals a lot of truths the world over. If working with dreams sounds interesting, try The Art of Dreaming by Carlos Castaneda. I’m doing this book’s practices for the first gate of dreaming.
In the end, understanding the theories and principals/philosophies behind magick is far more powerful and instructive than any single ritual or book of spells. With what I’ve learned through reading various books and websites these past years, I took some runes I was given a link to in the “Spell Sharing” topic, wrote the ones I thought I needed on paper, charged them with my will/intent, and consecrated them with a prayer. Now, whether they were effective or not for that particular purpose might not be revealed unless I happen to come across that same bully I was talking about in my thread there, but it’s kind of like that with all magick.
It’s important to be skeptical, able to believe when you need to, and let your imagination soar…or clear your head of all thoughts if need be. There’s no right or wrong thing to study, just follow your intuition.
Enjoy

Speaking of bullies I had a bad experience with Patanjali. I took the 1000 heads one which is stupid. Too many personalities. Eris is good for enlightenment but not as a soulmate. The Whore of Babylon or Lilith is a good bet. I admit I thought telling people I had a whore for a spirit would scare potential real world mates away bothered me but now with the polyamory thing it seems to be working out.

the internet is filled with occult books and information, my question stands, which is true or veritable on the matter
As is said before me I also believe there is some truth in every religion and occult path, one just needs to find what sounds right to them.
I also am afraid I don't have what it takes, or is there a special thing needed for someone to practice magic, are you born with it, it`s inherited or it can be developed.
All it takes to learn and practice magick is will power and devotion.
Yes some may have more talent but this talent is a blessing aswell as a curse, for it may weaken the devotion of that student because it comes easy to him anyway and this will prevent him from developing further in the long run.
I need to know how to find out which magic philosophy suites me better.
Best way for this is to do plenty of research.
There are the nature based Systems; shamanism, witchcraft, wicca ect.
There are the angelic and god based systems; enochian , jewish magick system, hermetism ect.
Also there is the chaos magick system which sees the universe as a joke and believes nothing is true and everything is posseble.
In the end, understanding the theories and principals/philosophies behind magick is far more powerful and instructive than any single ritual or book of spells.
I completely agree with this, and gaining this understanding will empower all your magickal workings.
I myself am eclectic in nature, using everything I find usefull and what makes sense to me, tho I have my basis in hermetism.

Yep, I'm ecclectic, too. Even among the alternate religions and spiritualities, I can't seem to stand being a part of any one thing. I learn everything I can and come up with explanations, later. Some people seem to do well grasping an understanding before serious acts, some people do better just doing without bothering to grasp any great truth.

The Sixth Book of Moses by Johann Scheibel where would this type of magic would fit in? I printed the seals I desired and said the conjuration laid down in the book upon them and surprisingly they tend to work or I am being enthusiastic. I carry them with me everyday. I want to know If I approached this the right way. Let it be known that this is my first attempt of any sort in the art of magic.

Seeing the name Moses, the hebrew letters and the use of the names of god,
its likely to be part of the high magick system of jewish mysticism.
If you have had succes with it so far I gues you can keep on using it,
tho personaly i wouldn't recomend beginners to work with spirrits right away

There is a sticky Resources and information thread at the top of the Beginners forum, you might finds some helpful articles and information there. There are some links there for the Twilit Grotto ,which is a Ceremonial Magick site.It has this kind of information in greater detail:
Seeing the name Moses, the hebrew letters and the use of the names of god,
its likely to be part of the high magick system of jewish mysticism.
If you mean the earlier post by Chamaeleus, then you will also find similar information for the subjects discussed in that post,on this Resources thread.
However,I 've yet to put up much information on Shamanism,as I refuse to post the Fluff,Duff and Guff stuff that is so widely available online.
I have some decent reference material waiting to be posted ,but I haven't had much free time recently ,so it will go into the thread when I 've had time to check it over. [thumbup]

Read as much of these as you can muster:
What NOT To Do
Dangers of Unpreparedness
As always, I'm a beginner my own self. In my beginnerness, I'm happy to relay what I've learned and let someone more experienced elaborate or expound.
In one respect, it's pretty hard to harm yourself until you get good at something. On the other hand, you might attract spirits with anything from a Ouija board to ritual work to getting excited reading some grimoire. Those spirits can draw on you or entice your negative emotions to surface more often, and even merely mischievous spirits can make life pretty difficult. Beyond spirits, dangers could include expending all your energy and being left drained for a long time. I've known of physical damage manifested from spiritual and mental exertion much like it's depicted in
The Matrix. Also, most ancient systems of spirit work teach that we are born with a set amount of energy. I can never find in any text whether it's a set amount that gets slowly used as we go along, or whether it's an investment out of 100% that takes time to recover, afterward.
You may very well misteach yourself something and be years into a learning to realize who you were learning from is a quack and you were better off without him or her. Always be skeptical of what you read and who you learn from, whether it be something you read or someone who is teaching you. There ar a lot of people out there who merely want your money or the power your belief in them gives.
By far the biggest danger still, though, is fearing yourself and what you're capable of. The best defense you have is to read everything you can, never thinking of anything you already know in absolute terms, and remember the tenet of chaos magick:
Nothing is true, everything is permitted.

Ask, and it shall be given you: seek, and you shall find: knock, and it shall be opened to you.
My advice to you, coldeyed, is the same I give to all who wish to begin in the Occult. Raise your hands to the Heavens, and announce your intention to become one of the Initiated to the Divine. Open your heart and reveal your desire to the Universe, and the Universe will conspire to fulfill your wish. Have faith, and
bona fortuna.

I actually found out I had a curse and a blessing a few months back called Pink Adrenaline. I am self-diagnosed so far because they (the doctors) thought it was just major depression. Does it prevent me in the long run? I guess it's too soon to say but I work with many spirits not just in a magick circle but at all times. If I start wigging out on them they being me back on track. In a way I'm a puppet. At the same time I seem to have my own will. My will works in perfect synergy with the spirits I have now and that doesn't include Patanjali or Buddha. Why not those two? I have no fucking clue. For some reason they just push too hard and have their own ideas about life. Oh well. I never would have thought. It is a very strange reality we live in indeed!

@OP; I'm just curious as to how much research you've done with the traditions/styles
of magick out there. Surely, out of the many out there - you would've found something
that resonated with you.
What do you want to accomplish with your magick? That should be the first question
answered.
