Are you looking at necromancy from a ceremonial or witchcraft method?
Re: Where to start in alchemy and necromancy
Any. I would like to learn any type of necromancy.

Check out the Palo Mayombe system. It's sort of like a darker form of voodoo/santaria and works a lot of the dead and whatnot.

A little late to the game on this one but I will toss in my two cents nonetheless. For Necromancy I like "Greek and Roman Necromancy" and "Magic, Witchcraft, and Ghosts in the Greek and Roman world" both by Daniel Ogden.
"Forbidden Rites, a Necromancers manual of the fifteenth century" by Richard Kiekhefer
"Communing with the Spirits" By M. Colemen
I can't help much with alchemy, though I hear Thelema has a good system and the aptly titled alchemywebsite has many texts.

If you're interested in the Dead, I'd like to suggest my books. "Memento Mori: A Necrosophic Grimiore," is good for beginners. This is a more Witchcraft method of working with the Dead, but I can't really say it's Witchcraft. It's not religious at all. I also wrote a companion book, "Working with Spirits." My methods are my own but I have been influenced by the African Traditional Religions and Traditional Witchcraft. I WOULD NOT recommend looking at Palo Mayombe. It is NOT a form of Necromancy! It is an intense RELIGION. It costs A LOT of money and takes A LOT of dedication. There are few reputable books written in English on Palo. Only "In the Garden of Blood and Bones," by Nicholaj De Mattos Frisvold is any good. Most of the other books do not go into details. If interested in my methods, check out my site at www.necrosophy.org or email me at disirdevi@hotmail.com.
