Hello [crazy]

Assuming, you cast a circle (very beautiful, humming circle) and then a cat (very small, very nice, a little bit stupid) walks through it.

what could happen?

Well, then you have a cat in your circle I guess [bummed]
Honestly, cats are always nice company, and just because something walks through the circle does not mean all is gone. Now there is just a cat in the circle.
Also dust is moving through the circle all the time, what happens when dust crosses the circle?

That is actually debatable (as is everything). I don't personally have a set belief on this, but in some Theosophical readings animal spirits are something like specialized elementals. Especially the ones close to human contact (pets and such). These, some have postulated, 'evolve' to become vehicles for Human spirits. Depending on your terminology that would either make them souls or the housing of souls.

Cats have been known for walking through magic protection since ancient times. That is why they make so good spies.

Also, when you cast a circle, what do you cast it against? A circle against negative energy isn't going to do much against your pet.
A protection circle against curses will surely not effect a good friend or a loved one.
