Jay-Z anybody?

I have no interest in his music... I don't even think I've heard any of it (I certainly haven't listened to any of his music knowingly, although it's possible it has been played in a room I happened to be in). But there's a lot of buzz about him being a secret occultist/illuminatus/whatever. What do the good people (and the bad people [wink] ) of this forum think? Is he just taking Crowley quotes and references to magick to add a touch of mystery to his work? He certainly wouldn't be the first musician to use a smattering of occult knowledge to spark up their work. If he is a member of some sort of recreation of the Bavarian Illuminati, then he's got a very loud mouth about it...
So what do we think? Looking to stir up controversy? A fellow occultist giving a nod to his brethren? Something darker?

Occultists can be found in all walks of life. It's possible that he studies Crowley but doesn't want to share his hobby with the public. I don't talk about my occult studies publicly either, but that doesn't mean I'm secretly evil. I don't believe in the Illuminati conspiracy.

There is an entire genre called horrorcore. Hardcore rap with horror themes. A lot of occult. A lot of satanists.

All of the above.

Conspiracies about music industry and their supposed occult/satanistic (those terms are surprisingly often used synonymously in this context, most often by people with christian background and an abonnemount of Alex Jones...) have been around for decades now. My guess is that hollywood and the big lables already chatched onto this and do this on purpose because they know their audience very well and know that also they guys believing in their conspiracies will watch and probably even buy their stuff as "evidence" material. Don't forget that behind the scenes this business has legions of marketing and psychology slaves under contract whose only purpose is SELLING.

The only time ive ever seen full on, openly occult subjects tackled is in the black metal /death metal genres, and they are usually done by the childish, with some very notable exceptions.
I have little care for Jay Z. I cannot get into rap, and hate mainstream music thats spread wide to satisfy a common denominator and rake in the money, because i find it intellectually insulting.
I highly doubt the Occult interests Jay Z. He's probably only interested in lining his own pockets some more, imo.
