Hello all!

Hi! My name's Lexi, and I've come here to learn more about the occult, as after being raised in a fundamentalist Christian home for my past 23 years, I've decided that said religion is counterproductive and hypocritical, and basically not working for me, and it's beliefs have ruined my life (feel free to ask me about it). Although just to cut a line of question off, I am not interested in the occult purely as a reaction to my upbringing, as it does speak to me and appeals to both my sense of spirituality and my philosophical and analytical mind.
I find that the beliefs of the Temple of Set really align with me, as it's entirely about self-improvement and freeing yourself from the social condition imposed by society.
I also find it quite odd how almost all religions, e.g. Christianity, are solely theurgical (often combined with self-degradation),like we are so powerless we can't do anything in the magical-spiritual realm without divine assistance. That's really what began making me question Christianity, it's constant denigration of ourselves and the material world. They really fail to see all the philosophical and logical issues in their dogma, and when you point it out, they reveal themselves as occultists by saying things like "The Holy Spirit hasn't illuminated this to you because you are not on good terms with him." No matter how they phrase it, this is what it becomes. It's the hypocrisy. It's terribly disingenious. Same with them complaining against black magic. Black magic is manipulating people. One of my Christian friends is a salesman, and in my view, he is extremely adept at Lesser Black Magic without knowing it. Although Christianity has also done a lot of good in the world because of good people in it, and at the same time wreaked much evil. I could go on and on, but I hope you get my point.
So basically I'm seeking out any fellow Setians, and I'd like advice on joining (what is the application like?) and finding a third degree to mentor me.
Thanks, and have a great day!
Lexi
