Other than a couple small Freemason lodges, the Odd Fellows are the only publicly advertised "fraternity" in my area. I pass by their lodge every time I go to the market, and they're closer than all of the Mason lodges.

What do you guys think/know of them? The only thing I know is that they have associations with the Masons, and a little bit of what I've read on their wikipedia page.

Do they teach anything that's worth their dues? Do they teach any magick? Are they as good of people as their homepage makes them out to be?

I've been interested in them for a long time, but I can't find much beyond their history. Little of what they're doing Today.

Any assistance would be highly appreciated. Even if you found something obvious that I missed.

They are just a Christian charity for men who wants to get out of the house for a couple of hours. Not really an occult society.

In Europe the Freemasons are often from the upper crust of society and Odd fellows are usually more middle-class.

Would probably be worth it to give them a visit at least, of course. They're the real deal as opposed to what you'll only ever hear about in tales.

I often see what-looks-like a Woman with a beard sitting on the steps outside their lodge.
S/he is elderly, and dresses as an effeminate older woman would, though s/he is always wearing a cap and clothing that conceals their lower face to a certain degree.

Seriously, from what I can tell, it looks like an old lady with a beard. She's pretty skinny.

Always sitting on the steps, and eying me down weirdly as I pass them.

Honestly? If I lived near such an establishment I'd get to know them as far as possible. Chalk it down to my curiousity about the illuminaughty in general, but I'd do it. Even if that meant going up to the bearded old lady and making conversation with her. Gatekeepers are weird people, y'know?

I'd be lying if I say I haven't thought about it. Something puts me off, not sure what..

I have a very similar drive as you, but I've never followed through on it. In the past, before I was initiated, I had the ideas to join the local Masons and see what they were all about. I still might, even. It's just not on the top of my to-do list.

My current curiosity about them will probably lead to a future interaction, but I'm not sure yet. We'll see where life takes me.

It's the mundane aspect of reality. Even if you join a lodge you'd end up having a good time organizing and attending charity events and the occasional members' dinner. It's more possible that even the administrative roles in the organization doesn't actively participate in the naughty aspect of the illuminaughty thing.
