There are several different "sigils".
Chaotes create sigils by creating composing symbols and or letters to represent the intent. I do not have much experience in this area perhaps one of our more chaos oriented friends can elaborate more fully in this regard.
Sigils are also graphic representations of proper names. Tracing letter by letter using such templates as the Rose Cross or Watchtowers.
There is also another class of sigils. These are not derived or created as the prior examples. They are much more akin to an entities personal "autograph" or "signature".
I will post some image examples when I get a chance later tonight.
