I was wondering whether any of you creative types tend to channel any of these harvested energies into your works and if so would you be willing to share any of them and the proccesses which you've used in their creation.
As for my work, you can click on my website to see some of the visual work that I do.
I'll be sure to post a link to some music at a later time.

What do you mean by "harvested energies?"
-I like your art, very energetic.

I mean just that. Whatever energies you've channeled or cultivated as a result of ritual practice.
Almost all of my art and ALL of my music is a direct product of ritual.

There is not a time in my life now that my writing is not influenced in some way by ritual. The writing itself becomes a ritual. When I paint occasionally the same thing happens. If at any time someone is creating art and it is not a ritual of some kind I would be hard pressed to call it art. Many people don't even understand the fact that everything they do in life that means something to them is usually the product of some kind of ritual or Magick.
I may post something later on if interest is sufficent.

Erm... I'm a fiber artist. I spin, dye, and knit, and make halfway decent money for it (like minimum wage, HAHA). It's not very exciting or thought-provoking, but it helps keep my hands busy, and I like making things I can use and wear. My creative outlet is in the colorwork, usually.
Here's a few links to some items I've done-
A pair of handknit socks (cotton/rayon)
A handknit, handspun, handdyed hat
Handpainted machine-washable and dryable wool yarn
There. Boring enough for you?

I find that when my playing is best, I am in the same hyperalert but "absent" state that I experience in workings. So I guess my answer is that while I don't consciously utilize energies from workings to influence my musical ability, the same mental states are accessed when everything is "right."
Sorry for this somewhat vague answer.

I created two thoughtforms based on the main characters of a novella I'm writing to help me get into my characters' heads. I honestly haven't done to much work on the piece lately, so it's hard to say if they've been effective for this or not... Regardless, they've definitely proven themselves to be worth the effort I put into them.

This probably isn't vague at all to the artists reading the thread, and it's very true. I've experienced this in my writing, and seen others go through it when working passionately at something, be it a classically "artisitic" endeavor or just something very expressive for that person.I find that when my playing is best, I am in the same hyperalert but "absent" state that I experience in workings. Being a painter, I work with static images and I'm always intrested in art that carries a practical application, even if they're just hats or socks. I'd attempted to weave before but it almost drove me crazy.
My music is easier to create in a ritual setting. The only problem I have is the equipment and sources which I use are very random. My last album had no musical instruments on it what-so-ever. I used three turntables, prepared music boxes, tape loops, sheet metal, field recordings from the Everglades, contact microphones, metal buckets filled with water, etc...

Nice, seems like we have somewhat similar aesthetics...I did a few pieces using only layered and looped samples of the sounds generated by my laptop (cd opening, powering up, hum of the fan, etc.)
Have you heard Farmers Manual?

Did youcheck out the links to my work which I've posted? I'd be very interested in hearing your feedback.

I love Nurse with Wound. I have his collaborations with Stereolab on my iPod right now, in fact. Organum I am less familiar with...but I will see what I can find on SoulSeek. I will check out the links tonight from home.
Btw, Farmers Manual are on the Mego label if that gives you any idea of what they sound like.

I'll have to check them out.
Those collaborations Nurse With Wound did with Stereolab are fantastic. Which one do you have, Crumb Duck or Simple Headphone Mind?
I've been a jazz bass player for about 15 years but since I founded Hoor-paar-Kraat I have given up all forms of conventional music.
I don't know if you're a big fan of any Japanese noise but I suggest you check out Masonna (Takushi Maso Yamazaki). He's a one man, ear-splitting powerhouse using only a microphone, a few pedals and a shit load of agression.

Thanks. No, I haven't worked with a large heddle loom if that's what you mean, though I have tried (and loved) the small triangle looms that are new to the USA market.
It is very calming and meditative, too.
I think knitting will always be my favorite pastime, but spinning is very easy and fast to learn.
If you have a mind to, I'm sure there's a guild near you that would give a lesson or three. Spinners especially seek each other out- there's just so few of us.
Thanks!

I have both collabs on the iPod. I like Masonna for meditation, oddly enough. I find the feedback and white noise really soothing. In my hardcore days I used to use Extreme Noise Terror for the same purpose. I have to think that Masonna, ENT, Merzbow, etc. are aware of the hypnotic effect their music has on listeners. When I have gone to noise performances everyone just stands there, stunned, and when it's over it almost seems like they are emerging from a trance state. In the opposite dynamic direction, I find Aube to be rather wonderful, although I tend to strain to hear the quietest sounds on the recording...or fall asleep.

That's funny. I'm listening to Santor Lena Bicycle by Nurse With Wound and Aranos, right now.
Merzbow's work has gotten really boring since he went to performing and recording via laptop. Aube is fantastic. Almost all of his work is centered around water. What you mention about listening for the quiet sounds is something along the lines of Duchamp's "Tiny Music" theories. I find much of the harsh noise very meditative as well. It's like it lulls you into this state where you're in the eye of an aural hurricane.
I think you'd also really like Sunn O))), if you've not already heard them.

Their droning heavy stuff is okay but their White 1 & 2 albums are fantastic. They're really alot more experimental that any of their other work. Eart is another band that I happen to like but their vinyl has gotten so collectable that you have to drop a small fortune to get anything.

Massona is great, saw him once in London -
6 minutes of action packed noise mayhem!
i am performing at the same event as Merzbow in October
at an underground film fest.
HPK - checked out one of your noise tracks, sounds great,
we should do some CD swaps, wicked paintings and drawings btw!
thanks for the links-

Thanks for checking out my work. I really appreciate the feedback.
I'd be more than happy to trade some work with you. Just say the word and I'll send you my address.
What equipment do you use in your performances?
I'd also like to add that I'm totally jealous of you for having seen Masonna. I've spent the last two years amassing a sick collection of his work and I think I'm only missing a few of his available pieces but I'd cut somebody's throat for one of those Scatolo Mini Disc releases or one of the Masonanine acetates.
When they actually do pop up on eBay they sell for an excess of $300 USD. That's just sick!
I'm almost all sold out of my last release, of which I only made 75 copies. I have two or three left. When we do the swap, I'll send you one.

in my performances, i usually just "dj" - although many people have told me it is somehow more than just a dj set -
i usually use 2 cds 2 decks and a mic with some effects,
lots of noise and atmos mixed with breaks and industrial percussions....
i used to play live, but after awhile i got sick of lugging all my gear around,
plus flying with equipment is a hassel....
i should be getting a new laptop soon, but i still like working with vinyl,
i will probably integrate the laptop sooner or later.
i see this kind of got off topic, so i will bring it back.
magickal systems and history play a big part in what i create,
most of my work is funneled into that sort of perspective or mindset,
there is no difference, as Crowley said "all art is magick " -
i cannot dissconnect the two in my own work.
