Enunciation for spells.

Post by DarkSchneider »

I have a difficulty reading out loud. I can't read out-loud clearly, without tripping over words, reading words out of order, slurring them together or mumbling. This makes reading or reciting spells quite--challenging. I wonder if I'm endangering myself, or others if I were to work with spirits (I've worked on myself in the past but I could only recall a few successful attempts with spellcasting). Is this a problem? Are there alternate ways of working with spellcasting unless they specifically require you to speak out words? Or should I work on trying to read and speak more clearly?

Hi there.

Perhaps it may help to memorise the words as much as possible before you begin; that way, the book will only be a prompt and you shouldn't struggle so much with tripping over your tongue.
Are there alternate ways of working with spellcasting unless they specifically require you to speak out words?
Yes, there are plenty of different forms of spells that don't require spoken words at all.

Slow down and practice before you jump right in and do.

Vibration.

Intonation and enunciation are many varied patterns of vibration, there are many forms and not just of the spoken word.

You could try singing instead of speaking?

This is a known and well trusted aid for many folk who have speech problems, those who've watched the film 'the King's speech' might be familiar with it's use as a vocalising aid.

Syncopation.

Rhythm.

Nonsense.

I am quite fond of vocalising sound patterns that don't make sense in any formal or recognised language.

It's quite energising.I play with my voice.

You should too.

You could try thinking about a word and then making a noise you think relates to that word,go from there.

Vibration changes with pitch and puff and so on and vocalising in a lot of spell work is more about vibrating your intent than it is with giving a clearly worded speech.

Don't worry too much about accidently doing harm, intent is everything and unless you are consciously focusing on something like anger while canting, you'll be alright. [thumbup]

I have a lot more I'd like to share on this and I'll come back later.Got to go shops now.

Thank you everyone, your advice is appreciated.

So, there's not necessarily much danger from not pronouncing a few of the words in a spell correctly? It would seem to me, that, if you couldn't speak it out properly, the results would not necessarily seem guaranteed.

I think I've particularly understood this because I've experimented with the Simon Necronomicon and Simon Necromicon Spellbook a few times, and I believe I read that you MUST speak out the names properly, aswell and the phrases.

What's important is the intent behind it, not the performance.

Do you really want the spell to happen, well then it has in a sense already been given life. the ceremony is just a way for you to confirm it to yourself.

If you dance around the room chanting enochian, I think both of us can be pretty sure you really want something.

Like such:
I want a hamburger = does nothing = gets nothing
I want a hamburger = Does something = Gets something.

Who cares if you stutter or fumble on a word when ordering it.
The person in the register will most likely figure out what you want or at least try to serve you something along the lines they think you wanted.

That's a fair understanding that you've presented to me. It's actually quite encouraging. Thank you :)
